The children are continuing to settle into our daily routines and are doing so well.

We have started going up into the hall for our lunch and the children have done so well with this change of routine and developing their independence.

We have introduced our "Carpet Spots" this week. The spots have the children's individual photographs on them, and help them to find their place on the carpet for our whole class activities and snack time.

In our Phonics and early reading, we have finished looking at all of the picture-sound images and this has helped to prepare us to start learning our first Read Write Inc sounds next week.

We have been finishing off our statutory on-entry assessments, with some Literacy and Maths activities on the iPad.

The children have enjoyed reading our Story Saplings focused book, "We're Going to Find the Monster." It has a similar pattern and repeated refrain as the book "We're Going On a Bear Hunt." We are looking forward to exploring this story further and beginning to develop our early literacy skills.

The children have had so much fun at Forest School this week with Miss Lythgoe! We enjoyed reading a story together in the forest before heading off on a scavenger hunt with our friends. There was plenty of time for exploring and playing too, with the children enjoying the swings, hammocks and the mud kitchen. 🌿

We also got creative with some beautiful watercolour paintings and made our very own hedgehogs using pine cones, clay, sticks, berries and lots of other natural materials we found around us. The children had such wonderful ideas and really enjoyed getting stuck in! We are already looking forward to our next Forest School session!

We have also thrown ourselves into our art unit, Map It Out! 🗺️ We started by reading the lovely book The Map of Me before looking closely at images of different types of maps. The children then created their own maps in their sketchbooks using charcoal, crayons and oil pastels.

We took our map-making one step further by creating 3D maps using cardboard, tissue paper, sugar paper, card, tin foil and lots of other materials. It was fantastic to see the children's imaginations shine through! Some children included details inspired by our local area, while others let their imaginations run wild and added some wonderfully unusual and creative features.

And would you believe that, despite all of this, we still managed to fit in a full timetable of phonics, English and maths too! Our Cherry Class children really are busy bees, and I am so incredibly proud of all their hard work, enthusiasm and creativity this week. 🐝💛

Children have used crayons and felt tips so far and next week we will explore chalks and portraits!

We have also been developing our organising skills with some of our new resources such as foam building blocks and stickle bricks.

We are continuing our family and party themes for the next week so keep sending any family photographs in to develop our labelling and language skills.

In Maths, we have been working on partitioning and recombining parts of numbers with the help of Numberblocks and our 'Mastering Number' programme as well as practising on Numbots on the iPads. Some of our children will have their usernames and passwords sent home with them this week so look out for them in their bags!

In addition to this you have a change of winning the jackpot prize of £25000.

The school receives 60p from every £1 donated.

In our Science, we learnt about the types of teeth and what they are used for-whether it is for cutting and tearing, or grinding and squashing.

In writing we finished our Starbird book, by looking at the type of conjunctions that we use, and using them to write a letter of apology from the Moon King to the Starbird.

In our Reading, we have continued to learn about natural disasters, and this week has been focusing on Tsunamis and Volcanoes-explosive fun!

Finally, in our Art days, we have been learning sketching and shading skills-the children loved using their observational skills to draw real life objects.

In Maths we have looked at strategies for solving addition and subtraction with missing parts. It's been wonderful to see them developing their mathematical thinking.

Writing skills have been on show this week as the class have imagined what it would be like to have lived at the site of Kielder Water as the area was being prepared to be flooded. The emotion and atmosphere created has been incredible!

We have really enjoyed exploring our focus text, Starbird, in English lessons this half term. The children made some fantastic predictions at the end of the story when we were left on a cliffhanger!

This week, we also completed our art projects for the half term, working alongside our year-group peers. Years 5 and 6 took part in some exciting experimental installations, while Years 3 and 4 focused on observational drawing. We have been really impressed with the creativity and enthusiasm shown by everyone.

Enrichment Hour on Friday afternoons continues to be a great success, with all of our pupils thoroughly enjoying taking part in their chosen clubs. It has been lovely to see them developing new interests, skills and friendships along the way!

Tasty Tuesday we made some delicious and enjoyed playing with lego and games.

Wednesday we made some great loom band creations and played a really fun big game of boys vs girls sock wars.

Wednesday we carried on with our loom band creations, lego and lots of pretend play.

Thursday, we got all of our materials and chairs out and had a huge set up of den making. The children always love this activity and everyone worked together amazingly. We also celebrated 'Science week' with puzzles and word searches.

Film Friday we watched 'The Wild Robot' and ate pizza and popcorn!

Your child is due their flu immunisation this term. Last week we had another fantastic week in school with Cherry class telling me that they had the 'best day ever' in our forest. More fun to be had tomorrow! 

Thank you for supporting our Jeans for Genes day on Friday, donations have been made directly to the charity.
