Starting school is such a big milestone and I am so incredibly proud of how well all of the children have settled into school life, and have been absolute superstars! ⭐

Our Year One children have been absolutely amazing, settling back into school life, and welcoming our new friends to Willow Class.

At this time of year, we focus on settling into daily routines, establishing positive relationships and simply getting to know each other. The children are becoming increasingly independent with the daily routines in Willow Class and making friendships.

We have been exploring our classroom and school environment. The children have been enjoying playing in the different areas of continuous provision and they are encouraged to tidy up with the help of a song and the catchphrase "Choose It, Use It, Put It Away."

There are some statutory assessments that we need to complete when the children start school, and the children have been taking part by playing games and they were all so enthusiastic. We are going to be continuing with these this week

We have talking about good personal hygiene and how we can help to keep ourselves, and others safe. To help us, we read a story called "Dirty Bertie" about a boy called Bertie who has some very dirty habits! Then we played the "germ game" by passing the glitter around to represent the spreading of germs!

We have started our Phonics and early reading by establishing our Read Write Inc routines, and begining to look at the picture-sound images for each of our single letter sounds. This will help us as we move on to learn each of the sounds.

It has been lovely getting to know the children and families and I look forward to the year ahead together.

I am so proud of how well the children have settled back into school and how they have already become such a close-knit bunch!

We have had lots of opportunities for play in our class so far, as we build on existing friendships and create new ones with our new starters. The children have particularly enjoyed exploring the new provision in our classroom, including the home corner, kinetic sand, play dough, construction materials and creative area.

We have also settled into our new phonics groups this week and started our exciting new writing unit by discovering some mysterious yellow alien footprints in the forest! We have also begun our Year 1 and Year 2 maths groups, with Year 1 being taught by Miss Pope and Year 2 by Mrs Crook.

Science has been our focus during the afternoons, where we are learning all about how animals and humans grow and change. We were also delighted to welcome our wonderful Taekwondo teacher, Miss Rowles, on Wednesday afternoon for our first session. We all had so much fun and can't wait for our next session!

It has certainly been a busy and exciting first week, and we are looking forward to all the learning, adventures and fun that the rest of the term will bring!

All of the pupils have been very busy this week, readjusting to school routines and activities and we are so proud of how well they have done! We have introduced the parts of the day gradually and the children are taking to it so so well.

We have had full carpet times and bucket time where every child has sat and engaged in some way, as well as adult-led and pupil-led activities such as water and shape play, fine motor activities, cutting and sticking and our new BIG ART and craft for our Friday afternoon enrichment time. Can you guess what our cardboard box structure will be yet?

Our new book for the next few weeks is called 'So Much' and is based upon having a party to welcome a new baby into the family. This forms part of our topic of 'Me and My Family'. We have really enjoyed learning about our new book 'Starbird' and created some wanted posters to help the bird find a new home to live.

In maths we have been using number lines to help us with our backward and forward counting.

Finally, taekwondo started back up this week, and as you can see the children were throwing some fearsome punches and kicks as they learnt the art of self defense.

In Maths we've used bar models to help represent stories using addition and subtraction. The children have even been able to create their own questions using what we have learned.

Science has been a lot of fun, learning about the circulatory system and the function of blood in our bodies. We have talked about having a "heart healthy" lifestyle and got to make a model of how blood works (no real hearts were used thankfully).

I have been very proud of the class this week and how well they have settled back in. Well done!

It has been lovely to welcome some new pupils to our team, and everyone has settled in brilliantly and formed some lovely relationships.

We have begun our formal learning and established our routines, with everyone working incredibly hard and impressing all of the adults in the room.

In the afternoons, pupils have also been integrating into their year-group classes with great success. It has been fantastic to see everyone embracing this opportunity and growing in confidence throughout the week.

Oak Class-Brooklyn

Tasty Tuesday this week we made cheese and tomato pinwheels using puff pastry. These were delicious!

On Wednesday we played lots of games and enjoyed playing brain breaks and the floor is lava using youtube.

Thursday we had an arts and crafts afternoon. The children created some amazing masterpieces. We ended our session with a big game of sock wars and played lots of other fun games.

Film night Friday we celebrated 'World Roald Dahl day' early by watching 'The twits' and coloured in a selection of Roald Dahl colouring sheets. The children also enjoyed making some wonderful loom band bracelets.
