Week 1 and 2

We have had a very busy and fun week in Yellow class getting to know our new environment, friends and staff.

We have enjoyed lots of activities such as sensory baking, Art, Forest school, messy maths and phonics.

Forest school

We explored our Forest school environment. We read we’re going on a bear hunt and then hunted around forest school to see what we could find.

Sensory Baking

In sensory baking we made shortbread biscuits. Using our maths skills to count out the ingredients. Then explored the ingredients using our touch and taste senses.

Messy Maths

In messy maths we were learning quantities to the number value. Using a colour of our choosing we had to make the correct quantity of finger prints to match the number.

Phonics

In phonics we recapped over the read, write, inc speed sounds.

Literacy

This literacy and fine-motor lesson was inspired by reading the book Home. Children explored how different environments shape the ways people and animals live. Getting the children to think to be able to match characters to their correct habitats. They then applied their fine-motor pencil skills to design and draw an imaginative character or person for a specific home.

Week 3

We have had a super busy and fun filled week in Yellow class. We have been learning about our theme ‘There is no place like home’.

We have been discovering different habitats, using all of our senses. We have also had fun doing sensory baking as well as many other wonderful activities.

Maths

In Maths we are working up through our numbers and have been discovering number one through shape sound and its visual quantity, we have done this in our sand pits and songs and through the collection of single item.

Geography

Geography we have been discovering our environment. We have explored our school and its surroundings through exploration and discovery

Science

Science we have been exploring habitats and what animals live where.

We have done amazing work matching our farm animals to their sounds, such as cows, sheep, dogs and many more.

And also discovered different types of sea creatures like Sharks, Eels and Squid.

Art

We used our toy animals, dipped in colourful paints to produce animal footprint (and the occasional handprint) pictures.

We identified the noise the animals make as we dipped it in the paint before letting it trot over our masterpiece.

Sensory baking

We made some delicious Raspberry buns in sensory baking this week. These buns were a very welcome end of class snack, enjoyed by all.

We used our maths skills for measuring quantities and numeracy skills so we knew how long they needed baking for.

Week 4

This week, like other weeks has been fun filled and busy. We’re continuing with a our animal theme of ‘no place like home’

Literacy

In literacy this week, we have been reading ‘The Tiger who Came To Tea’ and in Friday we’re having our tiger tea party, with sandwich’s, biscuits & drinks to round off a full and busy week.

Along side our reading from books, we have also been using our sensory baking recipes to tie in with literacy. We have been reading the ingredients and also the method of how we bake cakes.

Forest school

This week in Forest School we have been busy. We have been talking about the season Autumn. We read our book Leaf Hunt then we had fun exploring our area for different coloured leaves and then made leaf crowns.

Sensory baking

We put our culinary skills to the test this week and we have made Salt Dough as well as some AMAZZZZING cupcakes for our MacMillan Coffee morning.

The children really enjoy it when we bake, and we have some budding cake chefs amongst us, as you can see by their smiles and by the delicious cakes & treats they make.

Maths

This week in maths we have been working on the number 3. We have been using lots of different resources, from building blocks, farm animals and songs, to help us recognise the quantity, shape & sound of number 3.

We have also incorporated our number skills in with our baking skills with the weighing and measuring of ingredients. During baking we have also been learning about how important, to wash our hands before cooking and to wait for our turn, and to help our class friends.

Environmental sounds

This week we have been continuing with our environmental sounds. We have been using our laptop to play the sounds of animals such as a wolf, dog, cow and then using our communication cards to see if we can find a picture, to match the sound.

Week 5

This week has been super busy and enjoyable, as always. We have been talking about Autumn, how it makes us feel, and how it affects the nature that surrounds us.

In maths we have been working the number 5 including its sound and shape.

We have had a sensorific week too and have enjoyed a sensology session, sensory baking and Ajax paint times on our sensory playground.

This week we have been working on number 5, we have used loads of different resources and visuals such as blocks, paint and explored the shape and sound of this number.

Exploring our senses.

This we week we have had a sensorific time with a sensology session for our noses and a sensory baking session for our touch, smell & taste. We each braved the different smells and decided if we like them, or not.

National poetry week

This week was national poetry week and we listened to a reading of the Poem, Autumn leaves. We also made this interactive by collecting leaves and acting out the verses. This was a super enjoyable experience enjoyed by all.

P.E.

We took ourselves off to our Astro turf and had some outdoor fun with our equipment. We played bowling and tried to knock our pins over- which on a windy afternoon, was a challenge.

Independence skills

We are all aiming to improve our independence and are all taking on different tasks with some brilliant results. We are helping prepare our breakfasts, carrying our own bags and even doing our own dishes. Well done yellow class, you’re all 🌟

Week 6

Week 6 has been a good week, and we had our first community drive on the school mini 🚌.

We are continuing to discover autumn and its affects on habitats and our surroundings.

Forest school.

In Forest school this week we have used some of the resources around us and made some hedgehogs. To our clay we added sticks, leaves and googly eyes for some autumn hedgehogs.

And of course no Forest school is complete without our campfire shmooooors.

Maths

We have been exploring addition. We have been discovering how to do this with blocks and colour blending, and also sorting our different dino colours.

Messy phonics

During phonics we have been identifying the letters in our name and making them in shaving foam .

Community drive

We enjoyed our first community drive, and in doing so explored our local areas. We incorporated maths in to this with a find and seek exercise. We pointed out and identified red post boxes, telephone boxes, churches etc.

Arts & Crafts

As it is Autumn, we have been practicing our Autumn art. We have have been identifying autumn colours, shapes &/sights. We have then made some amazing finger print trees.

This has been another fun filled Kingsbury week. This week we have really excelled in our maths, anmongst many other topics and really made all our learning very tactile and interactive.

In maths this week we have been working on addition. We have used all different resources to make our learning interactive. We have used our paints, our blocks, balls and cones. All to make maths fun and memorable.

Phonics/environmental sounds

We have been practicing our phonics and environmental sounds, using our coloured sound buttons.

We have painted letters on soft play balls and tasked the children with pairing these with the correct letter. Again this has brought phonics to life and made it interactive.

Art-national Art week

This week is national art week. For this we thought it would be nice to do a geometric design using rectangles, triangles which firs in with our shape, space and measure.

Outdoor learning.
