One of the characters mentioned in the book is Archie Smith. Archie Smith is referred to as a boy wonder. This could mean he is superior in an area like academics, athletics, or maybe everything. Mr. Linden is another character mentioned in the book. Mr. Linden is a librarian, and he seems different than the average library. He warns the girl in the story about a book, and usually a book is not dangerous or harmful. Captain Tory is a character mentioned in the story. The title "Captain" is inferring that he owns a boat.

I found "His heart was pounding. He was sure he had seen the doorknob turn." because most horror movies start with the monster or ghost forcing the main character into a small, dark room. The title, "Uninvited Guests" also adds to the suspense. Lastly, the abrupt ending to the line contributes the most since you do not know the ending of the story/

I feel like most of them connect back to a house like the part where Archie Smith was in his bed, or "under the rug" and the house of maple street. Also, Venice and France are mentioned and I feel like that adds to the suspense and makes your want to ask more questions because you wonder why they chose those two places over every other place.
