In this tweet, the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, states,  "Profits out of the hands of criminals. Protection for our kids. Today #cannabis is legalized and regulated across Canada". This tweet was published the day of the legalization itself (October 17th, 2018). Along with the tweet is an attached picture stating that Cannabis in Canada is "now legal and strictly regulated", "keeps our kids and communities safe", and "takes profits away from criminals". These points are extremely valid, as prior to the legalization, people would illegally sell cannabis underground (even to minors!), and often lace it with other unsafe, life-jeopardizing substances.

In this tweet, well-known actor/comedian Seth Rogen is amongst one of many celebrities to publicly condone the legalization of Cannabis, and announce his appreciation for being a Canadian Citizen. He states "Few moments in my life have brought me pride like I feel today. 
Canada, I love you. 
- one of your smiling citizens". Not everyone supports the decision to legalize cannabis, however. A health reporter by the name of Kelly Grant posted an article on theglobeandmail.com reflecting her concerns on the legalization of cannabis, including some of the negative effects it has on consumers. Amongst some of these concerns are "addiction", "mental illness", and "driving while high". Whether or not you support and/or engage in the use of cannabis, you cannot deny that these topics are very concerning topics that cannot be ignored. She even states the scary statistic that 1 in every 7 teenagers who engage in the use of cannabis become addicted. In this video posted by TIME's YouTube channel, Canadian's are ecstatically counting down the final seconds until the moment the recreational use of marijuana is officially legal in Canada. When they count to zero, everybody chants joyfully, and goodie bags are handed out. At the end of the video, someone that was interviewed stated that they don't think they have ever been excited for anything as excited as they were for that night. Another interviewee states that it is something he wants to tell his kids he was there for the moment of. In this video posted by CBC News' official YouTube Channel in 2015, they discuss some possible changes the legalization of Marijuana could have on Canada, had it ever happened. They state facts such as how we could assume "5 billion dollars in sales per year", and that approximately 5% of Canadians use marijuana regularly (at least weekly). Alternatively, they also discuss the risk that workers could be more likely to show up to work intoxicated, and face the risk of being fired for proposing threats to public safety. They also state that Ottawa and the provinces could share an $850 million dollar windfall. In this Instagram post, posted by to.dispensaries on September 8th, 2017, they state that he Ontario government will announce Friday that it will create a cannabis control board and open up to 60 storefronts to manage the sale and distribution of marijuana in the province". In this post, a very good discussion was spiked in the comments section regarding the legalities of the situation. This is on the Government of Canada's official website, and there is countless information, whether it is regarding impaired driving, regulations supporting the Cannabis Act, the current status of Cannabis Laws, and much more. In this link, there are also other very important links such as the Criminal Code, the Cannabis Act itself, and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. As you already know, not everyone supported the possibility of Marijuana becoming legal. In fact, many people were firmly against it and believed it would only cause harm. Here is a link for a 2017 Facebook Group petitioning against the legalization of Marijuana. Firstly, she states that until April 2019, the only way Ontario citizens are going to be able to buy pot is if they are over 19 and from a government-run Ontario cannabis store.
