She couldn’t talk for a really long time until she got the Medi-Talker. The Medi-Talker helps her talk through a machine. Melody got the Medi-Talker for Christmas from her mom. When Melody got the Medi-Talker, she couldn’t wait to use it at school. Melody had to wait a whole week before she went back to school. When she went to school everybody looked at her and Melody thought they were going to be jealous, but they weren’t jealous at all. Another problem that Melody has is that she can’t walk which is why she has a wheelchair. Iwould say that Melody has character Vs. nature conflict. I say that because Melody is a girl who cant walk or talk or really move. And i think she has character Vs. self conflicts because of the disease she has wich causes her to not be able to walk or talk. Melody also has conflict with these girls named Molly and Claire wich is character Vs. character . Claire is a girl who bully’s Melody because she is disabled. And Melody could not say anything about it because she couldn’t talk, up until she got the MEDI- talker. The MEDI- talker is a machine for kid like Melody who cant walk or talk, and the machine helps her talk just by using her thumbs. This machine helps her talk. Melody deals with not being able to talk by using the MEDI -talker as mentioned in the other paragraph. Of course it is not as good as actually being able to talk like her sister Penny can but its like that for Melody. Put yourself in Melody’s shoes , you have a whole lot to talk about but u cant say anything.  And you are  very smart but no one knows. No one thinks you are smart  enough join a competition and win  or even compete. The way that Melody can talk and solve these conflicts is by a machine. That is how Melody deals with her conflict. And she ends up joining the whizz kids competition and wins. Why I picked character vs character is because the conflict on Larry done and Kenny and how Larry done stole his brown gloves and that they make fun of each other , also they do a Maytag wash we’re they SMACH snow in your face and rubs it around like a washing machine.

Their dad has been in jail since the beginning of the book. The dad seems nice. The kids Noah the boy and Abbey the girl kind of are but kind of don’t because he has been in there this who time. A couple of chapters ago he escaped from jail. There mom does not really like him being in there house because she doesn’t trust like she used to but she still lets him be in her house. Another conflict that has been happening is the kids Noah the boy and Abbey the girl have been lying to their parents. This causes there parents to not trust them.  Abbey is kind of a bad kid because she snuck out of her window to see the boat called the coral queen boat. It’s a gambling boat. So this leads to the parents and brother having to try to find her, but you don’t know how long till you know you call 911. In one chapter Kenny says that he has had the treatment for it ( Patch therapy) but for him it didn’t work. So most of the time at school he has to look at peoples sideways or they will just stare at his eye which makes him feel insecure. One type of conflict Jessie faces in Running out of Time is character versus society. Jessie (character) has to shut down Miles Clifton and his men (society) in order to save the people of Clifton Village from the diphtheria outbreak, since Miles Clifton refuses to give the people of Clifton Village proper medication to fight off diseases. The other conflict Jessie faces is character versus self. There are many times Jessie feels like her task of saving Clifton Village is impossible, or too difficult for her to complete. She often pushes herself down when she messes up or fails.

Paragraph 2
Jessie deals with conflict with a brave approach. Every time she gets scared or feels like she can’t do the task, she reminds herself of Katie and the other sick children in Clifton suffering from the diphtheria outbreak. Knowing that they are all counting on her, she discovers a way to overcome her negativity and conquer the challenge. But the dad got put in jail for the act of vandalism the main character ( a boy   named Noah) sees his father every day in jail. Now Noah and his litter sister (Abby) are trying to figure out if their dad was correct or incorrect.


Abby and Noah have been working through this section better than most kids would. The dad have given up on the fact that Dusty Muleman (  the person that is dumping the 
Fecal matter in the ocean) is doing such a crime. So the kids are trying to show the sheriff what Dusty is doing. Some of the conflicts in the Watsons go to Birmingham is the conflict with Kenny. See Kenny deals with people bullying him mostly everyday at school and. Kenny just never does anything about it. Another conflict is with Kenny & Byron see Kenny and Byron most of the time always get into arguments. About random things and sometimes Byron is really mean towards Kenny and they always get into arguments. About every tiny thing that Kenny does Byron always yells our says something about Kenny and Kenny. Already deals with things at school like people already pickings on him calling him names and he just doesn’t do anything.

How does the character deal with the conflict?


Kenny doesn’t really deal with the conflict. When people bully him he just. Learned how to ignore people and not let them. Get inside of his head and make him mad. He just lets people say what they say and. Doesn’t really say anything to people that do mess with him and. Call him all types of names he just ignores it and doesn’t say anything back to them. The conflict with Kenny & Byron is they just never get along. With each other Byron just always say stuff to Kenny. To try to make him mad or scared but Kenny really doesn’t react as much just like when. People mess with him at school he just ignores when people try to make him sad, upset, mad, or anything. He just ignores it.

Another conflict is how when they stopped in Ohio the bathroom was and outhouse. Kenny was freaking out because there was flys in the toilet. Another conflict is Kenny getting bullied at school. He gets bullied because his eye was cross eyed. Everyone called him cockeye Kenny. Kenny has had this problem since he was little.




Kenny has never really dealt with a conflict of a problem he really just ignores them and walks away. Byron on the other hand is way different than his brother. For Example when Larry Dunn stole his glove he punched him. If this were to happen to Kenny he would have just walked away. Byron is very aggressive when it comes to problems. Joey doesn’t really have conflicts. The only time she cried was when dad shaved his head. That is how the Watsons react to problems.

Momma and Byron are getting better around each other because they’re having a road trip to grandma Sandy’s. Byron is also not supposed to be even near matches. Kenny doesn’t need to worry about the bullies back at Michigan because Byron took care of the bullies by beating up the main bully Larry Dunn. Then she had to do a news conference and during the news conference she passed out because she also had diphtheria and she was in the hospital for many days. Then after she was better the conflict was that they were not allowed to see their parents. That isn’t as big of a conflict as it is with the whole family and Dusty Muleman. The family deals with the conflict in many ways. For example Noah’s dad dealt with it in an almost immature way. He got mad at Dusty and he sank his boat that was dumping the waste. Noah is kind of on his dads side, although he makes sure to be carful about it. Abbey doesn’t want to do anything that involves getting arrested like her dad did. Jessie’s Ma explained to her that there were hidden cameras all over them and she had to find Mr. Neeley . 

Jessie feels very overwhelmed and curious about what 1996 could be like. Also one night Noah overheard his mom on the phone talking with her mother, about a divorce with Noah’s dad. That is a lot for Noah.
