Locke believed that people were born as genuine good people. Unlike the church, he believed that people were not born with sin. Locke also believed that the people should "govern themselves". He wanted a more democratic styled government. John thought that people had 3 natural rights that the government was supposed to protect, and if the government failed to protect those rights then they could be overthrown. Personally, I feel that John Locke's views positively impacted modern democracy and, more specifically, America's democracy. In fact, one of Locke's key ideas is in the Declaration of Independence. His idea that people are innately good helped form a more humane way of thinking and punishment. Locke's belief that the government existed to protect and ensure the people and their rights helps to ensure that the government won't abuse their power, and if they do then the government can be overthrown for the good of the people.
