Would have to take into account whether these sacred stories are allowed to be shared outside of Indigenous communities

In the text there is a clue or a key that helps to unlock what the metaphor means. It includes directions or specifications for the interpretation. We are not suppose to learn all levels of the stories immediately. You learn more as the story unfolds. An implication of surface stories is that people could get confused because you have to continue reading, listening, or watching to learn the purpose of the story. You could use this story to help the students to critically reflect because they need to constantly think about what the moral is.
