In 2020, the population of Pleasanton consisted of approximately 11,332 people spanning 9 square miles of land (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Pleasanton is an oil and gas town with the highest influx of jobs surrounding the oil and gas industry. This is the most specialized field of work within the town and is 27.2 times higher than average (Pleasanton, TX, n.d.).

Surprisingly with its close proximity to San Antonio, Pleasanton lacks diversity in its demographics. With approximately 89.39% of its residents being white, 7.96% being of two or more races, 1.70% are of "other" race, 0.86% are Asian, and 0.09% are either Black or African American it is not surprising that 83.80% of people in Pleasanton are originally from Pleasanton (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). With 64.4% of its occupants owning a home, it is surprising to see the overall poverty rate being at 14.89% (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). However, the city has a relatively low unemployment rate of 4.3% (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Contributing the highest percent of impoverished individuals are women. Approximately 16.91% of women in Pleasanton fall below the poverty line (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). However, the second greatest factor below the poverty line is Hispanics. Approximately 15.37% of individuals who are Hispanic in Pleasanton are in poverty (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs).

Education is a large factor in Pleasanton's poverty rate. Only 13.70% of its residents have obtained a bachelor's degree. However, even more, surprising is that only 39.62% of its residents graduate high school (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Concurring with this, only 0.93% of residents that had a bachelor's degree or higher fell below the poverty line. Whereas, 17.22% of residents that acquired a high school diploma fell were living below the poverty line (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). However, one weird statistic stands out the most, the poverty rate for individuals who did not pursue an education past the 9th grade is lower, at 13.22% than those that graduated high school (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Another factor to consider is the quantity of single-parent households. Single-parent households in Pleasanton are approximately 1,235 or 10.89% of the population (78064 Zip Code, n.d.).

Furthermore, residents in Pleasanton that are Asian have a 100% graduation rate for high school, but a 0% rate for attaining a college degree (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Similarly, White people in Pleasanton have a 94.29% attainment rate for high school and the highest graduation rate for college at 29.55% (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs).  Whereas, those that were considered to be "other" race had an 89.09% graduation rate for high school and a 0% rate for college attainment (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Those that were from two or more races had a high school graduation rate of 77.82% and a college graduation rate of 21.56% (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Individuals that are Hispanic had a high school graduation rate of 77.37% and a college graduation rate of 12.56% (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs). Finally, individuals that were black had a high school graduation rate of 60.0%, but a college graduation rate of 0% (Pleasanton, Texas Population 2022 (Demographics, Maps, Graphs).

Similar to the other schools in the district, the high school also has a student body that is majorly Hispanic. With 654 (67.8%) of the students being Hispanic. Surprisingly, the school did well on its accountability ratings compared to that of the other schools within the district. The high school received an accountability score of a B (Pleasanton High School, 2022). This sheds light to its incredibly high graduation rate of 97.8% (Pleasanton High School, 2022). Approximately 6.1% of students were in the gifted and talented program (Pleasanton High School, 2022) Along with a modest 19.8% took advanced placement (AP) classes (Pleasanton High School, 2022). However, 15% were in a special education program (Pleasanton High School, 2022).

In contrast, the majority of the teachers at Pleasanton High School are white (65.6%) (Pleasanton High School, 2022). Whereas, 31.8% are of Hispanic ethnicity and 2.6% are African American (Pleasanton High School, 2022). The average teaching experience for the institution is approximately 13 years (Pleasanton High School, 2022). Coastal Bend offers an array of academic studies including, industrial technology (welding, automotive, and oil, and gas), public and professional services (accounting, computer technology, criminal justice), human culture and education services (cosmetology, and early education), allied health (nursing, medical coding, and dental hygiene), and general studies (Coastal Bend College, 2022).

With a 100% acceptance rate, Coastal Bend College offers opportunities to students that would otherwise have not had the chance to further their education (Coastal Bend College, 2022). However, this is not the only service provided by Safer Path. The organization also aims to help strengthen the community through its community education program.
