By continually developing my own subject knowledge, i will be able to deliver topics to students more confidentally.

To support those students other teachers may view as being too disruptive to teach, by building positive relationships. I'll aslso try hosting after school clubs when possible. I have held jewellery clubs in the past which has really helped me build relationships with students that may have been disruptive during normal lessons.

I hope to add context to other subjects into my curriculum to show students the wider picture of their own education - particualry with maths and science, showing how these skills can be applied in a creative way. I'll do this by alternating theory and practical sessions to show how skills can be applied and why.

Whether that is a safe-place for both students or staff, or somewhere people know I will help them with whatever I can. I would like to do this through having set lunchtimes where I will stay in my classroom specifically for students to know where I am to come talk to me.
Inspiring - I would like to become a teacher whom students look forward to seeing. One whose class they are excited to be in. I would love my classroom to be full of bright, encouraging boards. Boards which will have beneficial material and show the students what they will be working on, creating a less intimidating environment. I had my own teacher in High School who pushed me to better myself in all aspects of life. He was there for me to cry to about home life, or cry to about a UCAS application. If it was not for him, I would have struggled a lot more getting through High School and getting into University.

It was always important that I knew where I stood academically so that I could understand what my options were for my future and I found my passion for English during high school. My English teacher always praised my work and supported me whenever I needed help - I want to make the students feel safe around me and be a support system for them and hopefully, make them love English as much as I do.

To be the teacher that I want to be I have to find my voice in the classroom and create lesson plans that are engaging for the students. I will try to encourage all students to find their voice too - in the classroom and outside of the classroom. I want to create a safe place for students to come to me with any issues and help them through any trouble they are having.

A teacher should be:
- Patient when dealing with students' behaviours and also provide some amount of care to the students that you are responsible for.
- To inspire them to look at your subject beyond the syllabus and teach usable skills that will be valuable in their day to day life. (For science this may be to teach them to think cynically and use an empirical approach to understanding the world around them.)
- To help them with exam preparation as whilst being too exam orientated with teaching can be a bad thing, so can not focussing on exams enough either. As the system that we are teaching in places great importance on exam performance.
- Past experience at a grammar school showed me that a toxic environment can be created by focussing to much on results rather than the effort and hurdles that the pupil has had to overcome so I will try to make a classroom environment that credits effort rather than just achievement.
- To inspire students I will try to link topics to potential future-careers or other external uses. (e.g. forces and motion to engineering.)

I want to be the sort of teacher that pushes every student and get the best out of them. At the risk of sounding incredibly cliché I want every student to be the best version of themselves. I'd aim to do this by not treating them as a class but as individual students, I'd try to avoid looking at my timetable and thinking "I have year 9 mixed ability now", instead I'd see the class as the individual students that make it up and build an effective student teacher relationship that makes them want to work.
I want to be the sort of teacher where the students would look forwards to coming to my class and would see it more as "Mr. Mainprize's class" rather than "just another maths class".
This last point might be a bit of a stretch but I would really like it if I actually inspired at least some of the students that I teach to become teachers themselves. I think this would be done through general demeanor and attitude in the classroom but I can't put my finger on how I would achieve this.

Ideally I would like every student to love English however I know that's unlikely. If I can share my passion with students and help them to engage with the subject I will be happy. As it is a core subject I want to make sure as many students as possible can see the benefit of the subject and how it will help them in 'the real world'.

We are told that it is all about passion for the subject, and that is true but I am realizing that it's a whole toolbox of techniques that come together along with the passion for the subject. I realized early on that you don't have to be amazing at a subject to be an amazing teacher, in fact it's not always helpful. What really counts is being able to put yourself in the learner's shoes, know something about different learning styles and have some brilliant ways of explaining your topics, as well as mastering a load of shoddy half-working technology, always having back up plans to your best laid plans, at the same time as knowing what is expected in the school and making decisions about when and how to use the sanction system at the same time as never getting distracted from the objectives, and doing this for the thirty or so learners in your care.

I want to be a teacher that makes history interesting to my students. Even at University so many of my friends hated History or didn't see the use, I want to be able to help children enjoy the past and learn from it. Hopefully I can do this through bringing in objects, relating what they're learning to their present lives, or even just showing them interesting parts of the past that they've never heard of before.
Also showing my passion for the subject - I dont plan to be one of those teachers who hides away from the topics I enjoy the msot and love. My Y10 students already know how much I love ecclesiastical Tudor History, and they might think I'm sad for it (and they do). But it engages them, and it shows them that this subject is still interesting - its not just the dead and boring past.
I also know that students will recognise and appreciate effort - if you put in effort to learn their names, to speak to them about themselves, and even effort into the work you set. Students will remember those teachers forever, rather than just the subjects they liked the most (although that does help). I will make the effort to speak to my students about their own lives and not just history, I will get to know them as people and not just students.

I am very passionate about my subject, and want to encourage students achieve beyond their expectations. From speaking to students this has proved to be one of the important factors to being an outstanding teacher as this love for your subject will be projected to the students. I would like the environment that I create in my classroom to be based on mutual respect and communication. The main aim of the students being in my classroom is to learn but it is also to be motivated to enjoy learning and be challenged to explore more themselves.

How:
- I plan to observe as many lessons in my training year as possible, noting down what makes each teacher an outstanding teacher.
- I note down phrases teachers use, techniques they may use to communicate, certain ways they explain topics and how they motivate students.
- One of my main focuses is to learn how to control behaviour management in the classroom, as through this it will create a welcoming and inviting environment in the classroom.
- I need to focus on my subject knowledge as students respect and trust a teacher that is knowledgeable in her subject.

Students come from all kinds of backgrounds, and us as teachers need to be able to be willing to listen and understand a student if they are facing hardships or require additional support. I aim to create positive relationships with my students, and an environment that is supportive and considerate for students to be able to express how they are feeling. For me it is not only key to make a good impact on students learning, but also their lives beyond the school environment.
