We have a plant parts lesson (stem, leafs, root, etc) and so we prompt the students with questions on what characteristics do they have that are similar to the plants? For example what are their roots (family culture, etc) . What fruit do they most resonate with? We get answers like (Short and sweet like a strawberry)

Farm agreement. We circle up to identify how everyone might feel respected and respect the space and together we vote on what agreements to abide by. I've found that the students themselves hold each other accountable to the agreements . For example one agreement might be that we stay on the pathways and not stomping on garden rows so a student who sees there peer stepping on bed will tell them that they have to stay on the row.

We just went into a one year agreement with the transportation company. In a pinch, we contact private charters.

I work for the school district and the hardest part is getting transportation for the kids to go to a Farm to School event we host. What I have seen other schools do is when their PTA sponsors a class for a field trip or when we have worked with transportation to cut transportation fees. But this is the biggest issue for Farm field trips.

We have lots of vendors come and participate in our Farm to School experience and our 4H also participates which helps our younger kids know that they can get into these clubs when they get old enough.

We only have done this for our 4th/5th graders. Our younger crew would enjoy it a lot but this is the group we have mostly worked.

When we host our Farm to School event, we have done it out by the fields and one time we hosted at a school site that has a big AG program. We also try to bring farm animals from our staff to join in on the fun.
