Beginning 2015, my NVE students held an End of School Year Art Show, which included a talent show and local artisans displaying and selling their artwork. Jewelers, wood workers, painters, and weavers of my students' families and friends participated.
Students sang and danced modern works and Navajo traditional song and dance. We had a cake walk and other games following the students' performances. For 4 years, it was always a wonderful, memorable family night full of Art, music, dance and performance.

All NVE students, grades K-5, each got a section of a photograph that I had taken of their home town, Navajo, New Mexico, and were asked to paint that section.
We had just completed lessons in mixing colors of the basic color wheel, creating tints and shades of colors, and creating graphic works of art using warm, cool complementary, and analogous color schemes. So expecting the students to match colors of their color photographs was actually making use of background knowledge and scaffolding prior lesson plans.
I made posters of the final 3' x 5' compilation to sale for the purpose of purchasing either digital cameras or other art supplies.

Students created designs for permanent highway street banners for Highway 550 going through their Cuba, New Mexico .
We first discussed what attractions their community and surrounding areas offered travellers passing through, and then they designed their banners using basic digital art software. Most were able to complete final copy-ready works, however if necessary I assisted by uploading their drawings and paintings into Adobe Illustrator.
The students observed how I went to the Village of Cuba board meetings requesting that they consider purchasing these banners. They also got to watch their town approve of the banners and pay for the production of the banners hence, learning the process of becoming a working artist.
