After taking the test I found that my bias is not as bias as I thought. I take things as they are, not as people say to be. In some scenarios of course I may be a lot more bias, but generally I am neutral with how news is. I thought I would lean to the hard right with my responses, yet AllSides says I am neutral. I will take it!

Inflation Increases up 3%, highest it's been since last June

In December, prices rose 0.5%, which is the highest it has gone up since August of 2023. In January, it went up 3%, the highest it's been up in a long time. This caused prices to increase and common stocks (S&P, the Dow, and Nasdaq) to lose more value.

In Addition, egg prices are the highest they have been in ten years, as between December and January they have gone up 15.2%. That is the highest one-month price difference we've seen in almost 10 years, last being in June of 2015.

As of December 2024, inflation went up 0.5%, which brought the annual total to 3%, which was higher than Dow Jones predicted. The market dropped following the news, as futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 400 points.

It was also said that shelter is causing over 30% of this issue: "Shelter costs continued to be a problem for inflation, rising 0.4% on the month and accounting for about 30% of the entire increase, the BLS said. Within the category, a metric in which homeowners estimate what they could get if they rented their homes increased 0.3% on the month and was up 4.6% on an annual basis."

Other notable products which bumped up the numbers were Food (eggs in particular because of a disease killing millions of chickens), Nonalcoholic beverages, Vehicles, insurance, gas, and energy.

In December, prices rose 0.5%, marking the highest increase since August 2023. In January, the consumer price index went up by 3%, the highest it's been in a while. This constant inflation caused prices to increase, leading common stocks (S&P, Dow Jones, and Nasdaq) to lose more value.

This inflation too led many Americans to spend more on housing and food, as they are the leading cause of this issue.

They mentioned: "'Some of January's bad inflation print was due to one-off factors like egg prices surging as avian flu swept across the nation's agriculture industry, or the month's cold snap and stiffer sanctions on Russia raising fuel oil prices,' said Bill Adams, chief economist for Comerica Bank. 'But other inflationary pressures look like businesses resetting prices higher at the turn of the year to pass on increased expenses they felt in 2024.'"

What Did I Learn?

I think it is important to have biased sources along with unbiased sources. They allow us to be able to understand multiple sides of what is going on in our news and also let us realize the entire picture. With some sources defending the people and some defending the latter, we can see that when news hits, there is sometimes good to it, and good that could come out of it.

When I use my phone and see different social media sites, I am welcomed by lots of biased and unfiltered info. It's life. We will all have to learn to live with it.

Although some places may say that "we're doomed with these high prices" or "Trump will fix all the issues," we know that we will eventually all pull through. Take what you see online with a grain of salt, always.
