Using multiple story lines can help the author to show cause and effect, which is the central idea of the whole book. Challenger deep uses two different story lines.

the author would write it this way to have freedom with their work i guess. also to make it come full circle, but it can be very confusing. Percy Jackson has multiple points of view so you know whats going on between all of the characters and it helps showing not telling.

So you can see every point of view in the story. Also you can understand how every character is feeling and not just guess from their actions. The Pretty little liar books, The boys in the boat, and The mother daughter book club series.

it may add more mystery. I know one book where every chapter is from a different perspective but it all comes together in the end to answer questions that people in the first few chapters had, or answers questions at the beginning that have the actual question later on

so they confuse us and when we watch arrow on netflix, and we want to see some fighting between oliver and slide wilson, they have to go back to the island, they like to mess with our heads and make us think. i don't want to think, the earth is flat ahhhhh

Because (s)he has a time machine and all this is based off real events of another dimension and the book that the author wrote fell into a black hole and showed up in this dimension or maybe (s)he was to lazy to write a sequel or something i don't know
