Kassan- I feel like anything that helps anyone feel safe in their skin is a positive thing. However, I do worry that people use gender swapping instead of really going deeper into who they really are with a real human. I wonder if their have been any studies that investigate how gender swapping may be the first step for some people to begin being more public with their true self?

Having never really thought about it, most games I have played tend to have male leads, but I do not know if I am drawn to those characters in any way because of gender. I find the research you cited interesting as I had not considered that gaming would provide a potential outlet for gender identity and sexual orientation. This would extend beyond even gaming into social media and often have many identities "Many teens develop a range of online identities and self-presentations across a variety of social media sites." (Rafla, Carson, & DeJong, 2014, p. 3).
-Neil

Reference: Rafla, M., Carson, N.J. & DeJong, S.M. (2014).

There is, Kassan! Thank you for your comment. There are some good case studies in Griffith, Arcelus & Bouman's "Video Gaming and Gender Dysphoria: some case study evidence". Check it out :) The link to the article is provided under references.
