As one of my first TV shows, Victorious showed me the life of a few high school students. In addition to including stereotypes such as the "dumb and clueless girl" or the "weak and fragile nerd", Victorious showed me an unrealistic example of high school life. While it did provide my adolescent mind entertainment, I learned about the reality of high school and the stereotypes within the show a few years later.

The BFG was my favorite book throughout elementary school. I enjoyed the concept of giants interacting with little humans, like me. I read this book many times, and it developed my reading skills. I often attribute this book to being my introduction into novels, or the start of my love for reading.

The Torah

At the age of 13, I had my Bar Mitzvah, a celebration in the Jewish religion. Before the celebration, I had to study the Torah and read a portion of it as part of my service. Studying the Torah made me much more grateful for the opportunities I've had in life. While not very religious myself, I talked a lot with the Rabbi and learned a lot about the history of Judaism.

Theodore Boone

The Theodore Boone collection is the first series of books I completed. I enjoyed the thrill of watching Theodore solve crimes and follow through with justice in court. I started debate as hobby after reading these books, and my interest in the legal system sky rocketed. I read book after book, following Theodore's journey. I tried to replicate his determination in school, but of course, there's not too much work in middle school. Overall, I enjoyed the series a lot and it's where I discovered my love for book series.

March

March was the first graphic memoir I've read. It definitely pushed my interest into the civil rights movement further. After reading this text, I did more of my own research on Lewis and some of his protests. The illustrations evoke many emotions; I assume these emotions also furthered my interest. This memoir also provided me insight from a protestor's perspective, something I've rarely been exposed to. It allowed for me to be more critical of the U.S.'s past as well as leading me to research other protestors' perspectives, not just objective retellings.
