Marie had 3 sisters and 1 brother. Before she was involved with chemistry, she was a tutor and a governess. Eventually, Marie got into college in Paris, and began studying math and chemistry. She survived on buttered bread and tea because she had very little money. Another fact that I think is cool is that her notebooks are still radioactive to this day. Back then she didn't know how toxic certain chemicals were, and her notebooks are covered in old chemicals that she worked with. Scientists say that her notebooks will remain radioactive for another 1500 years. A third fact is when the war needed money, she offered to melt down her two golden metals and donate them. Something that came as a shock to me was when Marie Curie discovered two elements, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry ignored her because she was a woman. They eventually gave her the recognition that she deserved later on. She is a good example of a leader because even though all the odds were against her, she worked hard and pursued a strong career.
