Deformation is the changes in the shapes or position of a rockbody response to stress. While, stress is the force that deform rock. When stress higher than rock strength, the rock will be break. However, when rock strength lower than stress, deform will not occur. In addition, geologic structures were divided into four, which are folds, faults, joints and rock cleavage.

Types of responses when stress acts divided into four which are folds, faults, joints and rock cleavage.Firstly, fold is occured when stress applied on both sides, the structure of the rock can create wavy light structure. When rock was brittle and solid hard, the rock break.

When stress acted to the rock, rock deform upward and downward called fault. However, it is different with the joint which do not move when forces is applied. Then, rock cleavage formed when crystal is broke into their favourite plan which occur to the rock that contain mineral and crystal . Stress were divided into two, which includes confining and differential stress. Confining stress refers to uniform stress in all direction while differential stress is unequal stress in all direction.

Differential stress produced varieties of unique rocks and formed structure like fold, fault, rock cleavege and fractures. Differential stress divided into three types which are compressing stress. It is basically squezing or pushing the rock and the elongated crystal in the rock will become fatter and shorter. Then, tensional stress or known as tensile stress is opposite to compressing stress which is when force applied everything can be longer. Shear stress is applied at the end of the rock caused the round grain crystal turned to elipse and shorten 90 degree to tensile stress.
