After studying and taking the evaluation of the 5 steps of Empowering Educators through the Professional Learning Toolkit some of the areas that Arlington Public Schools (APS) needs to implement are: continuing to foster online and connected learning as part of the day-to-day activities. To integrate online and connected learning with ongoing face-to-face and formal professional learning aligned with improvement goals while connecting with other networks and online communities both nationally and globally. We are a 1:1 district, but we could do a better job of networking with other online communities both nationally and globally.

I also think the APS could create a checklist showing decision makers at a glance which online activities will likely help educators further their district’s student learning and improvement goals and which ones are of high enough quality to count as part of the formal learning options considered for professional learning credit.

Finally having a better tool or resource to process, collect, analyze, and share evidence of the actual value of professional learning activities from educators and students. In other words, it is time to evaluate the effectiveness of your work.

I think the toolkit is important because it is a revolving process that ensures the school is always working towards making improvement. In all honesty I think my district could benefit most from starting back at square one with steps 1 and 2. We have great technology access but I think a leadership team needs formed and discussion needs to take place about professional learning and technology expectations.

I would like to echo what Melissa and Derek have said. I think my school has great access to technology and now we need to take a step back to see where we are going and how it is going to benefit each student and teacher. I do believe the teachers in my school would benefit from collaborating online with other teachers. Our school is so small that there is only one teacher per subject. Finding someone in your grade level and content area online can be beneficial for all parties involved.

Our staff has also changed since implementing the 1:1 and I believe a new leadership team could propel our teachers and students into the next level.

Professional learning toolkit steps look like a effective way increases the learning quality. Connecting with other instructors and students all around the world is a great way to learn from others and compare their work with yours. This was we can always upgrade ourselves constantly. Schools should not hesitate to improve themselves if they have good technology, otherwise they still need to work on improvement for better technology to keep up with educational technology improvement

The toolkit is a great way to ensure that a school district is constantly improving and utilizing technology to the best of its ability. The school district I work at would benefit immensely from something like this. Have the ability to collaborate with fellow teacher teaching the same grade level and curriculum would be incredibly helpful.

Gayle Smith The toolkit seems like it would be a very useful process to implement in schools. Having clear steps in which district leadership and teachers could share. I believe that Step 3 would be most useful. The suggestion that more time be allotted for collaboration among would be well received. At my district, collaboration is the number one change that teachers would like to see happen but no time is allotted for it.

This toolkit is a great thing for schools to use who are looking to implement change. At our school we have been in a multi year process to change our language of instruction. I feel that step 5 would be very useful for our district. We should be in the evaluation period where we look at how effectively we have made our change within our district.
