As stated on page 208 it states “Tomas screams into the sheet and bucks in pain.”  This explains only an iota of the agony that was dealt in the cauterizing process when Malencia held a scorching hot flame against Tomas’s gaping wound. However, later on, it states “ ‘I barely felt a thing,’ “ {page 208}. This quote was able to exploit Tomas’s more “farcical” side. For that reason, Tomas could be observed as someone that is both resilient and mirthful.

The first account of this somewhat unyielding act of romance. According to Cia’s remarks, it states “I go to place a kiss on his cheek, only he turns his head and the kiss lands on the corner of his mouth.” The quote just shows Tomas’s ambitious fortuities to gain no more than a satisfying feeling that would only last for an iota of a second. Nonetheless, it was more than enough to appease. This has allowed them to accomplish extraordinary tasks. There are many examples of this throughout the novel. “But Tomas does look back. I can tell by the way he sucks in air. The way he wills himself to go even faster as he yells, “Run, Cia. Run.”I do. I run as fast as I am able. My calf and thigh muscles burn as I propel myself and the bicycle up the hill that leads to the road.” The quote above just briefly explains how great of a motivator Tomas can be, even though the incentive, in this case, was being able to live. Tomas clearly holds the standard for any developing leader. All in all, Tomas is an overachieving encourager.

As stated on page 240, “Tomas draws his knife and races forward as I spot the bag sitting on the ground next to my bicycle over fifteen feet away. The sound of metal on metal tells me our attacker has another weapon and Tomas and he are now engaged in battle.” This quote represents my reason correctly because it describes Tomas putting his life before Cia’s. And as the trilogy continues, he will have show many more examples of his unselfishness. However, he doesn’t let this distract him from his goals in life as well. In total, it is easy to believe that Tomas altruistic.

Thence leading to the relationship between Cia and Tomas. But he isn’t just known for being attractive. No, like Cia’s brother Zeen, Tomas might be handsome, but he is also very strong and smart.
