In the article Pupils should ditch French and German and study Mandarin instead': David Cameron wants education ties with China 'dramatically strengthened, published in the Daily Mail on December 5, 2013, James Chapman reports that David Cameron thinks that children in Britain should learn mandarin.

Chapman reports that David Cameron, during a visit to China, said that he thinks that the educational ties with China should be strengthened. He plans to do it by increased funding to schools so the costs for providing Mandarin training will go down. He also wants to double the the number of Chinese language assistants in the UK by 2016.

The article goes on to quote David Cameron: "I want Britain linked up to the world’s fast growing economies. And that includes our young people learning the languages to seal tomorrow’s business deals." He says that China will be the worlds largest economy when todays children leave school, so it is time to focus more on Mandarin and less on french.

According to the article, research by the British Council puts Mandarin Chinese in the top five most important languages for the UK’s prosperity, security and influence in future years. The article also states that only one per cent of the UK’s adult population speak it well enough to hold a conversation.

Chapman concludes with the fact that the new national curriculum will make studying foreign languages compulsory in primary schools, so the pupils wont have to wait until secondary school.

I think that David Cameron might be right about Mandarin being a more important language than French. Since China is a very large economy, it makes sense to be able to speak Mandarn if you want to work with something that includes business with China. Since Esperanto didn't really break trough as a world language, you need to learn multiple languages. I also think that it's wrong to force everyone to speak English just because the British colonized almost the entire world and forced their language onto other people while killing lots of them and taking the rest as slaves. It is not more than right that the British should have to learn other languages. They can't just assume that everyone will learn english to talk to them, so they should make an effort of their own.

Increased Mandarin in Brittain

David Cameron, the current prime minister of Brittain, claims that the people of Brittain should learn more Mandarin. The reason for this is that China is a rapidly growing economy and he considers that their current relationship with China is too weak, something he aims to improve by having the Brittish people learn Mandarin in school.

The prime minister says: "I want Britain linked up to the world’s fast growing economies. And that includes our young people learning the languages to seal tomorrow’s business deals."

The desirable effect of this would be a strengthened relationship with the people of China and an easier way to make business deals. As Nelson Mandela said:

“if you talk to a man in a language he understands that goes to his head, if you talk to him in his own language that goes to his heart”

We do believe that it could be useful, however it will take a few generations for the language to actually stick.

The message that Cameron is giving is quite clear, although he could have more motivations for this plan.

The purpose is clear.

We think that the ariticle may have been easier to read if they had an actual news paper article instead of an online article. The commercials cause a lot of distraction fron the actual text.

Compared to other websites it could be considered relatively trustworthy although we would not trust it to 100 percent since articles are always angeled.

The level of interest depends on the readers point of view and what correlation they have with the education of brittish students.

We would say that it is quite educational.

Can you survive getting hit by a car?

The South East Coast Ambulance Service were called at 12.53pm on Saturday when a man got hit by a car. Mr Futers, from Littlehampton, West Sussex was hit by a car on his bicycle as he pulled out of a junction and was wedged beneth the car. The innitial reaction from one person on the scene was - Oh my God, what have we here?' but then I heard an utterance under the car from the cyclist.

After the event his bike was mangled

I think that this text might make some people, especially cyclists and drivers, aware of all the accidents that can happen if you are not careful on the roads. They do not really explain exactly how he crashed into the car in this text, which is slightly confusing. This article is trustworthy because the newspaper is legit, the text is covering a lot of information about where and when the accident happened. The text also has a photo of the cyclist which makes it even more trustworthy although the whole accident seems a bit unreal because there is no clear explanation of how he fell. Without a description of how he fell, it would seem unlikely that he got wedged underneath a car. I think this text was pretty boring to be honest, but it might make people more aware in traffic which is the most important thing.

In the article Cyclist trapped under car for 30 minutes escapes with just cuts and bruises, published in The Telegraph, on January 3 2014, news agencies reports that a cyclist was found trapped under a car for half an hour.

Justin Futers, 47, drove out of a junction and was hit by a car. The man explains how life threatening this near death experience was. Mr. Futers hopes "these shocking images of his ordeal will be a warning to all road users to take extra care". After being trapped for 30 minutes emergency services managed to pull him out.

Mr. Futers managed to escape the dangerous situation without any serious injuries. The wittness Mike Bramton, who took the photos, initially believed that the cyclist was dead. However, as he approched the car Bramton heard an utterance from underneath the vehicle. The driver was a 76-year-old man who luckily did not require any hospital treatment.

After reading this piece, we think the article is not very trustworthy as the article did not contain enough information about the scene. For example, the authors did not mention the driver's actions or reaction after the accident.

Acording to the PR David Cameron Britain will partly ditch French and German in order for more students to Study Mandarin. David Cameron thinks that stronger education ties with China will lead to better future buisness deals and will help Britian evolve into a stronger country and economy, just like China. The Brittish council will therefore teach 50 000 English teachers in China and over a three year period to get more people to speak Mandarin, As Mandela once said, “if you talk to a man in a language he understands that goes to his head, if you talk to him in his own language that goes to his heart”.’ . However everyone is not happy about this. Rumors have started about the British museum keeping looted chinese treasures from the 19th century and therefore will give China second thoughts about the education deal. An educational partnership between Britain and China will benefit and step up both countries evolving standards.
