Mao sold the Cultural Revolution to the people by saying that the cultural revolution was needed to rid China of capitalistic influences 

4 main things Mao wanted to be destroyed after cultural revolution: Old culture, Old customs, Old Habits, and Old belifs

1st act Mao did: closed schools in China which negatively affected the young people and caused them too join terrorist groups like the Red Guard 

Red Guard was created to publicly humiliate, assault, and in some instances kill enemies of Mao and the communist party

Mao encouraged young people to turn in anyone who had capitalistic and anti evolutionary ideas which caused parents, teachers, and principals into the Red Guard. 

Ended in 1976 after Mao's death; used cult of personality to manipulate people to follow him. 

Negative consequences is that china was deprived of old culture and history.

The Chinese hoped to develop labour-intensive methods of industrialization, which would emphasize manpower rather than machines and capital expenditure.

Great Leap Forward was the result of the failure of the Soviet model of industrialization in China.
