There should be a paragraph that introduces the purpose of the instructions or guidelines.

Each “step” in the text should also have a little explanation.

There should be a conclusion that closes out the text.

Recipes are a little different. I would recommend the title to be the recipe itself. Then you should have a few paragraphs that talk about the recipe: cultural importance, family secrets to the recipe or importance, etc… After that, list the ingredients, then provide the recipe steps. The text should end with a SHORT paragraph about what serve with that dish.

Clear and simple language.

For essays that use a personal anecdote, the language should be formal but also emotive. Ensure you are clearly describing the events of the story (such as an experience overseas) so that your audience can imagine it clearly. First-person writing is fine.

Punctuation is very important here as it is an essay!
