The Last Supper is a very admired religious scene. The power of its effect comes from the striking contrast in the attitudes of the 12 disciples as counterposed to Christ. Another very popular painting is the Mona Lisa. The painting presents a woman revealed in the 21st century to likely have been Lisa del Giocondo, the wife of the Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo. Da Vinci's curiosity and imagination influenced most of his artistic expressions, which is why these two paintings are very well known.

Leonardo’s use of light and shade as a unifying compositional factor was very influential during this time period. Sfumato is translated from Italian, meaning “vanished”. He was able to create this master technique, creating transitions between light and shade, and sometimes with colors as well.
