Semicolon Project

A lot of people are now getting semicolon tattoos to support mental illness. The semicolon, in grammar, is used when a sentence could end, but instead continues to carry on. To me, this represents the strength that people who suffer from mental illness have to overcome and work through and move on with everyday life despite the many challenges.

This image caught my attention because, to me, this represents depression so perfectly. People have a misconception that depression means crying and being sad, but in reality, depression can take so many forms. Many people go about their day to day lives and you would never know they are depressed. When going through a spout of depression, I feel as if I can put on any variety of these masks. Depression, as with many mental illness, truly has many faces.
