I personally think the main theme in The Great Gatsby is that money does not equal happiness. This is evident in the fact that Gatsby had literally everything anyone could ever want, but he did not care for any of his materialistic items. He longed for Daisy and without her he felt empty and lost. The amount of money he had could not give him what he truly wanted, Daisy.

A question I had while reading The Great Gatsby, is why is Nick the narrator, wouldn't it make more sense to have Gatsby as the narrator because the story is about him? That is just my thought but what do you guys think about why Nick is the narrator?

A hot take I have about the book is that I personally do not like Daisy. She annoys me throughout the whole book. If your husband is cheating on you, and you know it, why do you stay with him?! She loved Gatsby before he went off to the war, and this whole time Gatsby has been waiting for her and she refuses to leave Tom. I hate Tom too. I think he is a piece of garbage 🤮

One thing that I could not fully understand while reading The Great Gatsby is, what is the purpose of Dr. Eckleburg eyes? I think that they mean that someone is always watching all the negative things that Tom and Myrtle do? I am not sure though because if that was the case I feel like his eyes would watch EVERYONE but I do not think they pertain to Gatsby or Nick as much. What do you guys think about Dr. Eckleburg's eyes? Do you think there is any meaning in them?

I personally enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby. I find it an easy read because it is easy to follow. My favorite character is Jordan Baker. She always seems so nonchalant and does not get herself mixed up in the drama everyone else finds themself in. One question I had about Jordan is, did her and Nick ever officially date? Or did they just both have a thing for each other but never made it official. It seemed like they only hung out when Daisy was around and when they broke up it did not seem all that serious to them.
