The left side of the reaction contains the reactants. The right side contains the products. Both sides of the reaction must be balanced. Each reaction can move both ways, to the left or to the side. When the rate of the reaction is equivalent to the rate of the reverse reaction, the system is at equilibrium. Each reaction is either exergonic or endergonic, depending on its change in free energy, which can be calculated with the change entropy and enthalpy. All reactions have an activation energy, which can be lowered by utilizing catalysts. There are many times of reactions such as substitution reactions, etc.

An exothermic reaction releases energy and an endothermic reaction takes in energy from its surroundings. The law of conservation of energy is the idea that energy can't be created or destroyed, instead, it changes forms. The law of conservation of mass states that during chemical reactions, mass can't be created ir destroyed.
