These guiding principles seem a little too ambitious to me, as for any change, it should not be made too fast but with the right rhythm. It is a necessity; with the world changing, it is necessary to upgrade the material. And at the same time, it is not really realistic because it has a cost (of money first) and people may not all receive the information the same way (some people being more suspicious, with the share of data for example).

Paris Nanterre

However, aiming to digitalise the education system for 2027 might be too soon, there is still inequalities in access to technologies and this sudden change also might prevent some people from returning to school after a certain age in for fear of no longer being able to follow the all digitalise courses.

Université Paris Nanterre, France

I believe that these guiding principles may be a little ambitious as there is much to be done and such in little time; this could end up being overwhelming both for teachers and learners. I think, however, that these changes are necessary at some stage, as the use of technology evolves, teaching needs to stay relevant for future generations that will be increasingly living and working with technologies. The change would probably need to happen progressively to be less frightening and more sustainable.

Université de Paris Nanterre, France

Those guiding principles are necessary but some of them are quite logical. Yet I find them relevant. For example, yes, as technology will be essential in the future (even more than it is now), it is crucial that everybody knows how to master it, and so this should be tought in school. But those guiding principles aren't veryrealistic, I think there're quite ambitious. Indeed, it would require a lot of many to provide computers to every student in every school of a country.

I find them very interesting and I think that it is a positive evolution for teaching to accept technology and to implement it. However, bearing in mind the fact that technology has been in our lives for decades now and it still hasn't been a 100% implemented in all educational centres, it seems a little bit unrealistic to have achieved those by 2027. In most public schools there is one computer per classroom and in some places there is not even a well-equipped computer room.

They are aiming for inclusivity, accessibility, and quality across all levels and institutions, but they face practical challenges. Realistic implementation will require substantial investment, making them both necessary and challenging to fully achieve.

It is true that we live in a new digital era and therefore our teenager students are very familiar with the new technologies. However, it exists the challenge of making them use it correctly, especially inside the classroom.

So, because of this, it is our job as teachers to try and encourage them as well as to keep an eye on students in order to make sure that they use technology effectively and not in a negative way.

Making too many drastic changes at once can lead to unintended consequences, and it might not give people enough time understand the full impact of each change. I believe that a more gradual, step-by-step approach could be more effective.

The Digital Eduation Action Plan is crucial for advancing education. There’s a significant gap between students’ and teachers’ digital skills. To overcome this, we need better teacher training on how to use technology effectively in the classroom (not just learning the tools, but how to teach with them). Coordination is also essential, as limitless options and different judgement can also lead to overwhelming approaches when different teachers all use different tech tools and environments, as it is happening right now in this emergency situation we are living in Valencia...

The bigger challenge, though, is AI. While AI has huge potential for personalized learning, teachers and students need to be properly trained to use it responsibly (and understand its ethical implications). The plan is a good start, but success depends on closing the digital skills gap and preparing teachers and students for the AI-driven future.

Universitat de València, Spain.

Embedding digital skills for educators is crucial for adapting teaching methods to the digital age, and the focus on inclusivity ensures that no one is left behind in this transformation. However, for these objectives to become a reality, we’ll need strong support from governments, institutions, and the private sector to ensure that the infrastructure, resources, and training are in place to make digital education truly inclusive and effective for all learners.

Even though I consider that the principles are essential and highly relevant because they focus on digital inclusivity among other things, I would also say that it is quite ambitious. For me, it would be a mistake to go faster than possible, so things should be done at their own pace. If they are backed by appropriate resources and tailored approaches, they could substantially benefit digital education in Europe.

As for my opinion, I agree with all the principles in general since the system must adapt to the technology-driven world and all that comes with it. However, I consider that this level of digital education is extremely hard to reach since not all the educational institutions have the budget to implement it. Moreover, education based on technology has its cons too. For instance, the risk that comes with online safety in students among many other aspects. Besides, it is also worth mentioning that not everything has to be related with technology in class to be effective or "modern" and it does not mean is old-fashioned.

I think it is exactly what we need right now. Digital skills are essential in every area of life, so making sure everyone, especially teachers and students, has solid digital competence is crucial. It’s an ambitious plan, that's true, and technology is evolving so fast that it sometimes seems impossible to keep up with everything. But generally speaking, the plan is well-targeted, relevant, and necessary.

I think that the digitalisation plans of the European Commission are quite difficult to follow. They offer some interesting ideas, but I believe that the process of digitalisation should adapt to the social and cultural context of the country. If we take some of the realistic and relevant parts of this plan, adapting it to our own school and the resources that we have, we can create a digital environment that really works for our students.

Even if this plan is an ambitious one, I believe we should walk in that direction, perhaps at a slower pace. Those principles are indeed necessary and relevant, but, in order to get there, we must take into account the casuistics of each school, given the culture, the economic background of its students and teachers, etc. Only in that way will we be able to make sure that everyone develops those digital skills.

Even though some people might not like it, digitalization is an essential need for nowadays education. As some of my colleagues have argued, it is indeed and ambiguous plan, but very much needed. In an era where all of us are surrounded by digital devices, we need to keep up with changes in society.

The European Comission Digital Education Action Plan has shown us both necessary and relevant guiding principles to be followed. Since our world is becoming more and more digital, equipping people with digital skills is necessary to make sure that participation in modern economies and societies is improving. These principles may seem ambitious but they are also crucial for long-term success and it is needed to take into account that achieving these goals require substanctial resources and effort.

They are ambitious as they are equally necessary given the digitalised world that we live in. Access to technology should be an educational right since digital skills are key to most jobs today and, therefore, a lack in these skills represents a great disadvantage in opportunities. And not just career opportunities, but teachers should also encourage students to use technological devices to foster their own curiosities and navigate the world in a way that is responsible and safe from misinformation and digital crimes.
