to understand this story that seems to run in a loop, it's important that a few details are cleared up ahead of time. namely the role a seemingly inoffensive old man played in all of this. cho hyungmin, president of cho industries came from old money and his pockets were so deep that politicians often came to him for funding. the growth of the company only skyrocketed under his control which further heightened his deep seated obsession for power and status.

so when his oldest daughter eloped with a college baseball star, he had to keep himself from having a total meltdown on live television. after all, it was the nineties where one bad moment on tv would be talked about for generations.

this daughter of his, cho jiyoung and her then boyfriend (who was not given the cho stamp of approval) decided to move to dandelion. a young boy by the name of kim younghoon was born soon after.

jiyoung took up a job as a cpa while jihoon became the baseball coach for the town high school. life went on, and it was safe to say that younghoon's lived rather ordinarily. a bright child, it was apparent from a young age that he had the capabilities of being a good leader. whether it was his exceptional grades or natural charisma, everyone around him held high praise for the young boy. while other parents would have held these notions with pride (to some extents jiyoung did), it was a cause of concern for his mother. if he continued to shine as he did, surely word would reach him, his grandfather. when that time came, she would have no power to refuse.

it came sooner than expected.

on the day of his middle school graduation, younghoon spotted an old man next to his visibly upset mother. turns out the man was his grandfather who came to take younghoon under his wing, to train him as the next successor after the sudden death of his oldest son.

to be seen with potential - so filled with hope for the opportunity to grow was a thing of beauty. unfortunately, that wasn't the life younghoon was able to experience while living under the same roof as his grandfather. his demands were immense, and he had more than a handful of lessons he had to catch up on if he was to appear presentable to the public. when he wasn't living on the day to day rigor of school, outside lessons were piled onto him. and to rebel meant enduring the mind numbing lectures his grandfather had in store.

so, younghoon endured for 9 years. and in the end of it all, he decided to paint a lie to his grandfather. claiming that he would go abroad for his mba, younghoon had instead returned to dandelion and began working quietly as a teacher.

to keep up appearances, younghoon technically has been working on his mba. it just happens that online classes are a thing.
