Response to “A poet's work is to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world, and stop it going to sleep.”--Salman Rushdie, I believe this makes the most sense to me, this idea that there is a responsibility and a sense of activism in any artistic work, especially in writing. I especially agree with the first statement, "name the unnameable", as that's something I constantly seek poetry out for. Poets use language to identify feelings and even vibes that are typically so tiny that most people don't bother to learn the words for, and make those feelings accessible!

Isabel Mercado- (Response to the quote form Plutarch) I really like this quote because it really says/ shows that art is made to make a statement no matter if it out loud or not. And being able to see that really help you understand and connect to the art better

the first quote -- I think that this refers to the ultimate reason for art and creative ambition. There is an inherent part of human existence that cannot be described at all by language alone, without including imagery and allusion and nods to the different parts of life none of us can really explain, yanno? Language is wonderful for communicating practically, and poets, the people who use words themselves as their art-beyond-words, have to both use and contend with words' existing meanings and purposes. - Frankie <3

Response to first quote: I really feel this quote because sometimes I try to encapsulate what I'm feeling through my writing and most times it's almost impossible to really convey all of that. Or even when do I manage it, knowing that the words in the page will just stay there and I won't share them because that's not why I wrote them

Valerie- The first quote spoke out to me because it's talking about a fear someone has when they don't have the confidence to say what they truly feel, and it's something that everyone goes through.

I'm responding to the James Earl Jones quote that says, "one of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter." I resonate with this because I do consider myself a very well spoken and vocal in terms of saying how I feel and what I need, but the inability to communicate something I'm dealing with is extremely frustrating and isolating. I think poets and writers and people who produce all different kinds of art and put it into the world are able communicate their feelings, emotions, circumstances, and experiences through their art. It gives people a way to communicate even if they don't know how to verbalize it.

As with what James Earl Jones has stated, I feel that all of us individuals have our own unique language that is extremely powerful. When we love something, our hearts speak in such a way where we are speechlessly in love. We would love something so much that no words could describe how great that love is. The same thing can go with negative aspects. If you hate something, your heart will conjure up the worst of insults. These insults could be so bad it could be identified as verbal assault. The heart's language is a much more extreme version of our own language from the mouth.-Azriel

A lot of times art makes imagery that is a passage to the spiritual word, to the inner self. sometimes a painting can make music sometimes music can paint pictures. Art does things phytologically that it can't do physically. - Diego

Words have such nuanced meanings, the difference between one word and another is subtle, but can change the meaning drastically. Take the phrase "safe space" and compare it to "defended region". Technically, these are synonyms of each other, but the tone and meaning is incredibly different. When you speak, your words carry meaning, so choose carefully before saying them aloud, lest you say something you do not mean.

I resonate most with James Earl Jones' quote. The feeling of having intense thoughts and emotions and just not being to put them into words is FRUSTRATING! That's why I really enjoy creating visual art since I often can't find the words I need to properly express my feelings. Whenever I find a poem that I heavily relate to, it's SO SATISFYING!!! It gives me the opportunity to see someone put what I feel into actual words!

Watch your character, it becomes your destiny" I like this quote because lately I've been paying close attention to the things I say, because I know it has a huge impact on my daily life. Words hold more power than we know. They affect what you think and how you feel, so we should be sure to only be saying words of encouragement and not destruction. We have the power to create our lives how we want them to be.
