I personally haven't had very positive experiences with body composition testing so I feel like this skews my opinions on various methods. However I like the sound of the DEXA machine and also feel like skin folds are quite accurate despite being intrusive.

Hip to waist is best imo. Anyone can use it and only need two easy to get measurements. All you need is a calculator. As for validity maybe not so much, but if you measure correctly it can be reliable.

I like the use of skinfolds in a slightly more professional setting, For general practitioner use I would look at girth measurements as its easily followed and understood and can be carried out by the general public at home with the help from a family member or partner.

I would normally try to avoid body comp testing as i feel it can give misleading impressions about current level of fitness/health and progression of weight loss/fitness through a training program. I would however use it for athletes if weight/fat percentage was an important factor for their sport.
