Technology is a major factor in the evolving changes at all K-12 schools. After researching the effects of technology integration in schools, I have come to the conclusion that it is not enough just to provide devices to students. There is a need for total renovation of how we deliver content, how we look at curriculum, and most importantly, how students learn....
There are schools who have successfully become 1:1 schools, providing students with the adequate devices to enhance learning through a 21st Century lens, however, are students engaging in authentic, real-world problem solving skills? Are they being taught to or teaching themselves through exploration and research? Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that by placing technology in a school, it will have a positive reaction on it's very own, however, researchers have found that there is much more to it (Sutton, 2015).

Sutton, N. (2015, March 26). What the Research Says about 1:1. Retrieved June 29, 2020, from https://www.edutopia.org/discussion/what-research-says-about-11

Now that I have researched the different kinds of learning that takes place with technology (blended, flipped classroom, project-based-learning etc). I understand the need for accurate implementation in my own school. We have the adequate devices, but how can I change the implementation and use of devices for enhanced learning experiences? My vision will be established with the desired change in mind and a plan that provokes this shift in my school. Using my current knowledge of my school's tech integration, (analyzed through SWOT) formulating the important steps toward change becomes easier, and allows me to focus on the necessary elements that must be modified.

Reading our textbook, Digital Leadership, I am relieved to find the steps to actionable change. A few of these steps have greatly stood out to me and they are: communication of the "new normal", talking with teachers of the expected change and getting them on board! Embracing the change and not just selling the idea. Making teachers excited about technology, not dread it! I also must try and model the change I want to see. Perhaps, my change starts with me in my very own classroom. I can adopt the idea of Polyphonic teaching (teacher and student jointly working to create knowledge through technology) and demonstrate the change I wish to see in my school (Sheninger, 2019). The last important element has to be Professional Learning. I have developed a whole new appreciation for PL. It is not everyone's favorite thing to do, but maybe, if delivered in such a way, and evidence of effective change is demonstrated, teachers will jump on the technology bus with me. Next stop... student engagement and achievement!

Sheninger, E. C. (2019). Digital leadership: Changing paradigms for changing times.
