The Loving Kiss

"She kissed his cold lips and begged him to look at her, to speak to her." (Pg. 2, Paragraph 6.) The quote from "Pyramus and Thisbe" explains how the two lovers kiss before their demise which also occurs in Romeo and Juliet. The kiss before both their deaths symbolizes their everlasting love. It shows that they loved each other until the end of their predetermined lives.
-Chase Wolverton

Bravery in Romeo and Juliet and "Pyramus and Thisbe"

In both Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet and Ovid's "Pyramus and Thisbe" when a character is brave they often make rash, emotion-driven decisions that lead to their demise. In Romeo and Juliet after Mercutio is stabbed Benvolio exclaims to Romeo (3,1,112) "o Romeo, Romeo, brave Mercutio is dead!" and is again referred to as brave Mercutio later times in the story. Mercutio died defending Romeo and his honor from Tybalt because he cared about Romeo and was driven by his emotions. In "Pyramus and Thisbe" after Pyramus thinks that Thisbe has died he stabs himself and when Thisbe finds his corpse and sees what happened she says "I too can be brave. I too can love," and she too stabs herself. Both Thisbe and her lover had made what she said to be brave decisions that were in reality rash, decisions that led to both their deaths. -Braxton Quillin

In "Pyramus and Thisbe" Pyramus finds Thisbe dead and blames himself for the death of Thisbe he exclaims, “It is I who killed you” because he believes that his love is dead and he then kills himself because he doesn't want to live without her. In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo comes to Juilet's grave to find her "dead" but instead of stabbing himself like Prymaus, Romeo drinks poison. When Juilet and Thisbe find their lovers dead they both then kill themselves.

-Amelia lewter

The color red and its symbolism

"“Now,” he said, “you shall drink my blood too.” He drew his sword and plunged it into his side. The blood spurted up over the berries and dyed them a dark red." The color red, unsurprisingly, represents blood in both the plays. It is brought up most near the end of both plays when the lovers die and spill there blood upon the ground. It represents the ending of feuds as they kill themselves, simultaneously killing there parents feud. In " Pyramus and Thisbe" the first blood is spilt when Pyramus kills himself by stabbing himself in the chest. In Romeo and Juliet The blood is spilt when Mercutio is killed by Tybalt then Romeo kills Tybalt. These instances are the first points of blood being spilt and in Romeo and Juliets case its not the last time either.
- Ben Foshee
