I consider myself an ordinary citizen who once dreamed of becoming an artist, though I wasn’t sure where to begin. I have always found joy in exploring new interests, easily turning almost anything around me into a hobby.

I’ve always felt that I notice beauty and possibility in the ordinary—seeing something special where others might not. Still, I recognize a flaw: I often get distracted before I even start pursuing something new. Right now, I’m working on myself, striving to transform inspiration into action and to nurture the motivation needed to create rather than just imagine. While I may appear ordinary, in truth there’s nothing ordinary about the diverse talents I possess. I hold onto the certainty that my unique perspective is something to embrace and celebrate.

I was born and raised in the municipality of Balamban, specifically in Barangay Singsing.

As a child, I often played outside, usually with my cousins since our relatives were the only ones living nearby. During summer vacations, my parents sometimes took my brother and me to Leyte, my father’s hometown, for trips that I cherished.

Growing up, I was often recognized as the bright and responsible child—doing well in school and helping to take care of my younger brother and cousins. However, like any curious child, I also had a mischievous side that gave my parents more than a few headaches. Despite leading a simple life, those early years played a significant role in shaping who I am today.

I am currently a third-year Civil Engineering student at Cebu Technological University, Tuburan Campus. My educational journey began at Little Angels Montessori School of Cebu, Balamban Campus, where I completed my pre-school, elementary, and most of my high school years, staying there until the eighth grade. I then transferred to Jose Chona Jo Memorial National High School, finishing both my ninth and tenth grades, as well as my Senior High School there.

Throughout my academic journey, I actively participated in extracurricular activities and took part in various municipal-level events. Looking back, I fondly cherish those formative years, making the most of every opportunity and truly enjoying my academic life.

Over the years, I’ve tried my hand at guitar lessons, being a lyrist, singing competitions, martial arts, cooking , various types of dance, and an array of sports—Futsal, Badminton, Volleyball, Softball, Lawn Tennis, and more. I’ve also immersed myself in games like Scrabble, Chess, and the Rubik’s Cube, and explored creative pursuits such as reading books, sewing, writing stories and poems, editing photos and videos, photography, videography, and crafting, among many other activities.

Despite the many skills and abilities I’ve picked up from various activities, I rarely find myself simply content or settled. There’s always an inner urge to pursue more, to challenge myself and learn things that few others attempt. It’s the thrill of taking on something that seems daunting or difficult that truly excites me.

For example, I recently leaped off a cliff—albeit a not-so-high one—into the water below, just to satisfy that longing for adventure, even as my knees trembled with nerves. I constantly crave the exhilaration of trying new experiences, all while still enjoying the activities I’ve come to love. This drive to seek out the unfamiliar and push my boundaries is what keeps my journey vibrant and fulfilling.

One of my proudest accomplishments was gaining admission to Cebu Technological University, Tuburan Campus—the only university I ever applied to. I had no backup plan if things didn’t work out, so everything was riding on this single chance.

When my application was accepted, I wasted no time gathering all the required documents and completing my medical exams. I submitted everything in person and then took the entrance exam. It was a completely new experience for me: traveling alone to unfamiliar places in Cebu for the first time, without anyone to guide me. My sole focus was on earning my spot in college.

After a few weeks, I received an email invitation to return to campus for the departmental exam and interview. I asked for a day off from my immersion just to attend, but, truthfully, I hadn’t studied for any of the exams or rehearsed for the interview—I simply showed up and did my best. The following day, while I was alone at home, I found myself doubting whether it was wise not to prepare more. Suddenly, my phone buzzed with a notification: the university had posted the list of qualified enrollees. My heart raced—what if I didn’t make it? With no plan B, failure wasn’t an option I was prepared for.

I immediately scrolled through the post, expecting the names to be sorted alphabetically, or perhaps by applicant number, but nothing seemed to fit. A moment of doubt crept in—could the list possibly be ranked? I started reading from the bottom up, hoping to see my name somewhere, even at the very end. My anxiety peaked as I reached the top—and there it was. I never imagined it, but I was ranked first among the qualifiers. The joy and relief that washed over me made me jump up and shout, overwhelmed by the moment. Despite my doubts, I succeeded—and not just barely, but at the very top. It was only the first step into college, but it remains one of the highest points of emotion in my life.

Looking back, my proudest accomplishments have always come when I doubted myself the most, and yet, through God’s grace, I was shown I am more than my uncertainty. He has always given me what I needed, even when it wasn’t what I thought I wanted. I may not be the best soldier, but I am deeply blessed by His guidance and presence in my life, never leaving me—even in moments when I nearly lost hope. For that, I am truly grateful.

I was only 13 years old, and our family was expecting a new baby sister. Instead of welcoming her together, we faced the heartbreak of losing our mother after a complicated delivery.

That experience changed everything for me at a young age. It taught me how fragile life can be and showed me a kind of pain I never want to endure again.

I have faced various challenges in life, but none compare to the moment when I felt I lost the very reason for my existence. Suddenly, I was confronted with the realities of life.

Life isn’t always smooth or easy—hardships prepare us for the real challenges ahead. Facing them forced me to mature quickly and accept responsibilities beyond my years, especially as the eldest sibling. I learned the importance of thinking things through before acting.

I have always believed in the saying, “When you dream, dream big.” There’s nothing wrong with dreaming—after all, it costs nothing. My biggest dream has always been to break the cycle of hardship in my family. While I am grateful for everything I’ve had, the thought that maybe I’m meant for something greater never leaves my mind.

Ever since I was a child, I’ve held onto a goal that, at times, feels out of reach. Still, I remind myself that there’s nothing to lose in trying, so I keep moving forward. Life requires us to be practical, and although people often say money can’t buy happiness, I believe it can solve many of life’s problems. Yet, I also know that achieving such big dreams isn’t something I can do alone.

At the end of the day, I trust that whatever plans I make for myself, God’s plans are always bigger and better. This faith gives me the courage to keep dreaming and striving, confident that I am never truly alone on this journey.

Growing up in a very conservative family has always felt a bit ironic to me, since I’ve often seen myself as quite the opposite. While my girl cousins gravitated toward dolls and Barbie, I found myself more interested in toy guns, cars, and even preferred Ken to Barbie.

I’ve always sensed I was part of the rainbow, but truly accepting my identity was a journey that took years. I never officially came out to my family, yet my father somehow knew. Meeting new people, I’ve become used to hearing the same surprise: “I never thought you were into this!” It’s a reaction I now greet with a knowing smile.

A fun fact about me is that I constantly get a mix of nerves and excitement whenever I’m challenged to try something new. No matter how anxious I feel, I’ve always loved embracing these challenges and pushing myself beyond my comfort zone.

We should never let ourselves get too comfortable with the past, as it can hold us back from embracing the future. Remaining in the safety of our familiar surroundings doesn’t truly prepare us for the realities of the world. If we never leave our comfort zone, we risk becoming stuck, much like staying at home simply because it’s quieter—even though new experiences and opportunities await elsewhere.

Life constantly changes, and we can’t become better versions of ourselves unless we’re willing to adapt to the world’s ongoing innovation. Just as we can’t become professionals if we remain students forever, growth requires movement and courage to step forward.

If life is a journey, then reaching our destination means being willing to leave the starting point. Comfort may feel safe, but it shouldn’t become a reason to stay put. We’ll never discover what adventures or possibilities lie ahead unless we take that first step and begin the journey.

My greatest influences and sources of inspiration have always been my family. My father often told me, "Walay lain makatabang nimo kung dili imong kaugalingon"—that no one can truly help you except yourself, not even relatives. At first, I thought he was only trying to make me more independent, perhaps to frighten me a little. But, as he has so often done, he showed me the truth behind his words. I eventually realized that I am, in the end, the only one who can genuinely lift myself up. My family won’t always be there to guide me, and this truth was difficult to accept; it made me painfully aware of how fleeting our time together can be.

That single line from my father resonated deeply with me. Even when we think someone will always be there for us, life can prove otherwise. We never really know if the same people will stand by us in our lowest moments. Some might see his advice as harsh, but knowing my father, I understood the care behind his realism. To this day, I live by the lesson: "I only have myself to help me." It’s not meant to cast my father in a negative light, but to show how his words reflect the hard truths of life—like when people say, "Hindi ka naman binato pero tinamaan ka." I am deeply grateful for the family I have, and I carry their influence with me in everything I strive to do.
