I've always loved art from a very young age. I remember when I was little my older sister bought me my first ever big kid coloring book, it didn't have huge pictures or silly characters, it was an adult coloring book with beautiful mandalas on every page. Every night that year we sat down and colored a page together after dinner. By the time I was in 6th grade about 3 years after my sister gave me that book we made it a nightly habit to sit down and color. Most of the time we never talked about our days and sometimes we would even watch a show, but we always colored a page.I am relieved to know that she started doing that with me to help me wind down and express my emotions in a creative way at the end of every day. See, my sister was in highschool when we started doing this and she had noticed how much anxiety I was having and wanted to help in any way she could. Shortly after 7th grade I got diagnosed with Stage 9 generalized Anxiety, medically classified as crippling, and started taking medication for it. 7 years later after that diagnosis, I take medication for my anxiety and was on a pretty high dose, but recently I was able to drop 15 mlg (I know it doesn't seem like much but it's a big deal for me) because I got back into doing art every day. At the end of the day my husband and I sit and talk and color one page out of a coloring book. We're on our second book now,it's called The Secret Garden, and I feel myself getting less anxious. Art has always been a big part of my life, I want to be a high school art teacher, and I try to have a little bit of the arts sprinkled into my day as much as I can to help improve my mental health. You are your mind and you need to take care of it and let your brain have a little fun sometimes. Embracing your creativity can make all the difference in your life.(362)

I Chose to do some field work. I made two surveys one for a base line and one to measure the effects art has done on or for your mental health.

Part one: I asked family and friends to take the before survey I created to gather a baseline of how there were doing mentally that day. I then had the participate in a fun arts a crafts project for about 2 hours to give them a fair amount of time. After I had them take a different survey asking if they had any changes.

Part two: I asked the same above of my fellow classmates and some of my other long distance friends, I asked that the lest they needed to do was to take the before survey spend about 15-30 minutes doing any type of art they wanted then take my second survey.I also asked from both party's for completely honest.

Part three: What I found was fascinating. I got a total of 27 people to take my surveys all ranging from ages 18-50. After going threw an compiling all of the information I got (which you can see above) I found that before participating in art most people depression and anxiety ranged from a 4 to a 9 out of 10 (ten being the worst) I then found that after participating in art most participants found themselves improving slightly going up one or two numbers. I also found most participants found themselves more calm and relaxed. The biggest thing I wanted to show was 100% of the people who took my surveys and did a little art agreed that art can help you mentally, and some thought art can help your physical health as well.

This is a sculpture I created when one of my friends passed away, It was an important way for my to grieve. This piece took me about a month to complete, and was so important for me. She had spina bifida occulta, 2 years ago she had a invasive surgery to relieve the pressure from her bladder and uterus and didn't survive. Art was the one thing that was there for me, helping me grieve and get past that point in my life.

This is a 4 foot 8 inch rusted boat chane, I created ceramic vertebrae from the spin along with the coccyx attaching parts of the broken of chain pieces I had to the ceramic I then welded the chain back together and added vines and flowers with wire and epoxy, Its currently a hanging piece i have in my living room thow i think i need to move it to a stand or something like that because its 40 pounds.
