Assessments (which serve as reflections) allow the teachers and students alike to review what was learned, how it was learned, and what gaps need to be filled. An assessment needs to be accurate and genuinely invite answers from students. Teachers need to pay attention to the assessments and gather information.

Ensuring that these assessments are brief and low-stakes but informative is key. Formative assessment can take many forms, such as classroom discussion, observing students' responses during independent work, and brief assignments at the end of each lesson, and choosing an appropriate format for formative assessment will ensure that learning is measured effectively.
