Modernism is an English genre of fiction writing, popular from roughly the 1910s into the 1960s due to increasing industrialization and globalization. Modernism was set in motion, in one sense, through a series of cultural shocks. The first of these great shocks was as World War One.

Modernist story was often more of a stream of consciousness. Irony, satire, and comparisons were often employed to point out society's ills. In contrast to the Romantic world view, the Modernist cares rather little for Nature.

A short list of some of famous Modernist writers includes T S Eliot, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway and Virginia Woolf.
