Onshape is a cloud-based 3D CAD platform that allows students to design and edit ITD projects. Aligned with the SAMR modification level, it supports real time collaboration, parametric modelling and integration with simulation tools.

Onshape Tutorial - F1 in Schools

This video series from the F1 in Schools STEM program has shaped the approach to my CO₂ Dragster unit. I believe it is highly effective, as it breaks the content into manageable segments, engaging students in Onshape modelling training in a redefined approach to traditional design and drawing tasks. Through the use of simulation with SimScale, it also enhances their understanding of performance criteria, allowing them to refine their designs. Students will engage with this tailored video series via the QLearn learning platform.

Textbook SAMR Redefinition, Lucid provides students with real-time collaborative tools to create interactive concept and mind maps with embedded link and video capability.

SimScale

Onshape itself does not include built-in aerodynamic simulation tools like Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). However, you can test a 3D model for aerodynamics designed in Onshape by exporting it to SimScale. Together with Onshape these applications align with the SAMR Redefinition level, enabling students to iterate and optimise designs based on real aerodynamic performance. This is far beyond what traditional drafting allows.
