It was invented by Dr. Bernie Dodge from San Diego State University. In the WebQuest there are six different parts-introduction, task, process, evaluation, conclusion and credits. 
It is formatted to teach a lesson exactly like it would be done in the classroom. 
It allows the students to show that they know what the assignment brings to the table and how to apply it or understand the topic given. 
WebQuest was created to let kids have freedom of how they are taught about a certain lesson. It encourages students to have creative thinking, allowing them to explore different sites for more knowledge on the topic. 
The teacher is allowing the students to learn about a lesson through a variety of different websites. Kids are able to get lots of different perspectives on the topic while also making their own on the subject. 

I would use this in my classroom for if a student was absent for a day of class. The student could do this from home on their laptop of available or when they got to school the next day. Work on it during free time of class to get caught back up. 

It is a nice way of teaching because kids are able to expand their learning ways and hear from different people about the lesson. But as a teacher it may be more work than it is beneficial. 
It is definitely something worth trying one day.

Web quest is a great way for students to keep up with their work and not fall behind their peers if they end up missing a day of school. Web Quest gives the students a better understanding of why they are trying a certain math problem and how they got to their final answer. It can relate the math problems the students are working on back to real-life situations. I feel like some students don't like math or don't get it because teachers do not always relate it back to what their students know. When I was in grade school, I think I would have got a better grasp of knowledge for math topics. Our research is continuing on this website but as of now we are thinking that this type of website would be beneficial for older students. Although, kids nowadays are better at technology than most adults. For now, I think that we would make 3rd grade the youngest age that we'd want to give these website a try with. We are looking to use this website for math lessons. We are not 100% sure what type of lesson, but thinking multiplication/division because students need lots of practice on this topic. Add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers. 

This standard is for 2nd grade. So that is what we will be doing for our standard and lesson. The technology is older and is discontinued today. Since there are lots of premade lessons we can use one of the premade lessons. The WebQuests are good for 2nd grade and up. I think that for younger children than that it might be hard for them to navigate the way through the lesson on the website. The technology is a lesson plan in itself and gives the students an assessment on its own. So for the teachers it is very helpful because they do not have to reassess them along with giving them this technology that is already taking away from class time.   • Students incorrectly record the algorithm for addition by not regrouping and ignoring place value. 
  • Reverse regrouping.
  • Confusing the multiplication algorithm with the addition algorithm.
  • Students might subtract the smaller number from the bigger number. 
  • Students make mistakes when regrouping across zeros in subtraction problems.
