This article and video was very enlightening, mostly explaining the study itself, rather than showing what all the students and teachers did. 

I noticed that the teacher was the facilitator, asking questions and guiding students to solve a real world problem.  The students were actively learning, very engaged, seeking solutions, and presenting ideas to city leaders.

Learning begins through "guided inquiry" and then shifts into "student-driven learning". It was amazing the amount of cross-curricular learning that was taking place. Students are completely on task and excited about learning. The students worked in small groups to brainstorm ideas and possible solutions. They then tested their ideas for effectiveness. All students were fully engaged and motivated. The students used vocabulary that indicated they had gained and retained knowledge of the content.
