         <description><![CDATA[<div>Gilbert discovered that not only could magnets could be made out of iron, but also that the earth was a gigantic magnet. He also discovered that if you heat up a magnet hot enough, you could demagnetize it. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Oersted started looking at the relationship between electricity and magnetism. He discovered this by accident when he put a compass near a wire with current flowing through it and realized that the compass acted as if the wire was a magnet. </div>]]></description>
