How did they use language in their situation? To inspire? To give hope? To not forget?
Irena used her papers as a Polish social worker and papers from one of the workers of the Contagious Disease Department (who was a member of the underground Zegota) to enter the Warsaw Ghetto.

Irena and her helpers made over 3,000 false documents to help Jewish families before she joined Zegota and the children’s division. She used papers and documents to inspire other and give hope to the families in danger. Paper and documents can’t be forgotten either.

What made their words so powerful? Her words were powerful because of their deep meanings. “You see a man drowning, you must try to save him even if you cannot swim.” -Irena Sendler. This mean if you see someone who is in trouble and you try to help them even if you could be in trouble as well.
Did this person know they were an upstander? Yes she did because of the quote in the last question.

“You see a man drowning, you must try to save him even if you cannot swim.” ...

Why are these words inspiring? These words are inspiring because she is saying you should help someone that’s in danger even if it has nothing do do with you.

“Fear makes you weak; anger makes you strong.”

Why are these words inspiring? These words are inspiring because she is saying that when you are frustrated and angry about something it makes you more determined to confront it. When you fear about something you run away from the idea or thought of it.

Overall, what inspired you the most about this person? Irena’s devotion inspired me the most about she. She rescued so many children from a bad place where they are in danger and I really respect that about her

Today you should finish your final note in Padlet. Here are the quesions to be answerd:
What can we learn from these words?

Irena Sendler’s words are important, inspiring, but most of all, we can learn from them. Her quote, “You see a man drowning, you must try to save him even if you cannot swim,” is an example of this. We can learn from this quote that she saw somebody struggling and she decided to help them out, as you should with anybody. What we can learn is that we should help others.

Do words matter for future generations to remember?

Words are important and matter for future generations to remember. Irena Sendler, an upstander during the Holocaust has many words that the future generations should know. For example, some words that were said by her- “Fear makes you weak; anger makes you strong.” This matters to the future generations because it is for them to know anger makes you strong and fear makes you weak.

How did recording or sharing his/her legacy help others be more determined or persevere?

Recording and sharing Irena Sendler’s legacy helps helps others be more determined or preserve. A quote from her legacy was “Heroes do extraordinary things. What I did was not extraordinary. It was normal.” This was a very inspiring quote because she risked her life helping 100’s of Jewish children escape from a horrible place. This can help others become better people, making them protect what’s right. This quote can help others be more determined or preserve.
