What is this book about?

Tomboy is all about how a girl is growing up wanting all the things young boys may want such as action figures, baseball caps, and other boy's clothing. She didn't like wearing any dresses, skirts, or anything "normal" girls may wear. The main character's name is Liz Prince. Liz grew up in the suburbs of Boston. She was faced with girls picking on her because of her want to be a boy, and boys picked on her because they never thought she could be one of them. Later on in her childhood she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. She faced sort of the same problems but this time, she actually became friends with two other tomboys.

I liked how realistic this book is. There are many tomboys that are picked on because they are not like "normal" girls. What I didn't like is how they added a little bit of personification in this book. They had the ghost of Bloody Mary show up on time coming out of a mirror. I understand that there is supposed to be a little humor here and there, but that's too unrealistic.

I like how they had the part where Liz's family moves to Santa Fe. I like how the author showed the difference in environment and difference in the kid's behavior. She showed how not every child is the same and that a child's behavior is caused by their environment.

In my after school program I went to when I was in elementary school. In the program, there was a girl who was more athletic than most of the boys there, including me. She was good at basketball, she was faster than almost everyone, and she hung out with the boys and not the girls. No one picked on her or judged her because of the things she liked. She was a good friend of mines. Even though she was better than me at everything, I wasn't jealous

3 quotes that stuck out to you (including page numbers), each with an explanation of why it is important or what you liked about it.

1. "Congratulations, you are on the road to womanhood." I chose this quote because she looked very frightened when she heard that. As if she didn't want to be grown or a woman.
2. "The point of me playing baseball was so I could be one of the guys." She was doing things that boys normally do so she can be considered a guy or "one of the guys".
3. :The second was whether or not those girls were right. Maybe I DID want to be a boy . Why else would He-Man be my hero?" I chose this one because this is when she first actually realized that she wanted to be a boy. She been having these thoughts for so long and now they finally make since to her.

Recommendation: Explain why you recommend this book or not, and to whom you would recommend it (consider what kind of reader might also enjoy it). Write 1 paragraph at least.

I recommend this book to people who don't really understand what it feels like wanting things that "normal" people don't usually want. For example, I recommend this books to bullies, people who are quick to judge someone because of they way they live their life, and people who question homosexuality. Everyone is different and unique and it is good to know why they want the things that other people don't. I feel as though that is good to make friends with people that have different backgrounds and different life styles because that means you can learn a lot more things and experience a lot more things.

I think the song "Man in the Mirror" by Michael Jackson because it's mainly about making an impact on the world. Liz Prince made a difference for all the tomboys out there who feels different and unable to stop being antisocial about their personality.
