Description
The Sierra Club was a grassroots environmental organization  that helped pass important acts that were important to environmentalism. Some of these acts include the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.

Relation to Environmentalism
The Sierra Club is promoting sustainable solutions by supporting the passage of laws that entail conservation and thereby exemplifying environmentalism.

Relationships/ Conclusion
The Sierra Club was similar to Roosevelt's Forestry Service because both promoted the conservation of both wildlife and human health. Through the conservation of wildlife, this club helps to promote sustainable development. Also, the Sierra Club relates to the National Wildlife Federation in that both strive to preserve the wildlife present in the environment.

Description
The soil was exhausted of its nutrients because of the intensive plowing done by the farmers. This caused immense erosion in the land and the soil lacked a strong root system, so the wind blew the soil into dust clouds.

Relation to Environmentalism
The actions of the farmers does not support environmentalism because they did not conserve the land and plow efficiently to maximize the output of food while minimizing the damage to the environment.

Relationships/ Conclusion
The Dustbowl led to the formation of the National WIldlife Federation because the government wanted to save the animals after the devastating impacts on the environment. The dust in the atmosphere was at peak levels.

Roosevelt's efforts toward conserving the forests that are being destroyed exemplify environmentalism and encourage sustainable ways to manage wildlife.

Relationships/ Conclusion
The Forestry Service supports a similar cause to the National Wildlife Federation and the Sierra Club because all three foster the notion of conserving wildlife and any biotic organism that is under stress due to anthropogenic emissions.

Description
The Great Smog of 1952 affected the British capital of London and it resulted in cold weather, windless conditions, and air pollutants (because of coal). It is even considered the worst air pollution event in the history of the UK.

Relation to Environmentalism
Environmentalism was completely rejected during the events that led to the Great Smog of 1952. Many factories and mining facilities used up coal at rapid rates, thereby releasing particles into the atmosphere that can cause severe damage to the environment. Rather than focusing on sustainable ways to use coal to where the maximum output is reached while still conserving the environment, many citizens kept burning coal at alarming rates.

Relationships/ Conclusion

Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring because of the widespread misuse of pesticides after World War 2. Carson accused the Chemical industry of misinforming the public about the dangers of the chemicals that are being released to treat the crops. This resulted in a national ban on DDT. This ended up leading to the formation of the U.S. EPA.

Relation to Environmentalism
Silent Spring was a vital step towards the general public supporting the philosophy of environmentalism because it appealed to the people who were initially unaware of the detrimental effects of pesticides in everyday life.

Carson was essentially promoting conservation of the human health, but also that of wildlife. By doing so, she is also promoting the sustainability of the environment.

By providing the citizens of the United States economic incentives for protecting the environment as well as making it a law, people will be more incline to promote environmentalism. This also encourages more conservation efforts on behalf of the people. While setting rules and regulations, the EPA also supports the widespread distribution of knowledge regarding collective environmental conservation efforts

Relationships/ Conclusion
Rachel Carson's Silent Spring was the primary motivation for creating the U.S EPA, otherwise companies would continue to dump toxic chemicals into waterways. Carson though legal action was necessary to promote any sort of change in the environment, hence the EPA was established

Description
The nuclear disaster in Chernobyl was the result of a flawed reactor design. 5% of the radioactive core was released into the atmosphere. The radiation poisoning killed 28 people in total. It is considered the most disastrous nuclear power plant accident in history because of the cost and casualties lost.

Relation to Environmentalism
This nuclear disaster is clear evidence of a disregard for environmentalism because the lack of care put into designing the nuclear reactor resulted in damage that destroying key aspects of the environment. This carelessness was the sole reason why such a disaster even took place.

Relationships/ Conclusion`
The lack of sustainability in the design itself led to the lack of conservation of human lives and the environment. It is ironic that something like this happened right after the establishment of the EPA. However, after the incident the EPA took legislative action on specific design elements of nuclear reactors

Description
The Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred when 11 million gallons of crude oil spilled into U.S. coastal waters. It took more than four summers of cleanup efforts before the effort was called off. Exxon spent about $2.1 billion on clean up efforts because of the water's toxicity.

Relation to Environmentalism
This oil spill also exemplified a lack of regard for the philosophy of environmentalism because the government did not spend enough time cleaning up the spill and it was not effective either. This shows minimal efforts toward sustainability and conservation in the environment. By not pursuing the obstacle, the government does not support these principles.

Relationships/ Conclusion
The oil spill was one of the largest oil cleanup efforts on behalf of the EPA, however, the money spent was in vain because the method for cleaning up oil spills was not effective at that time.
