         <description><![CDATA[<div>Political instability - When emperor died, people fight to try to take control of empire. When no conflict, emperor's private army picks new emperor, but they only pick ones that will reward them instead of rule responsibly.<br>Economic and Social Problems - Rome citizens have to pay large taxes in order to keep the big Roman military force, which causes poverty and problems in trade. Unemployment. Farmers could not compete with landowners so fled to city, but not enough jobs for everyone.<br>Weakening Fronteirs - Big size of empire, hard to defend. Could not communicate fluently. Germanic tribes.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Monarchs believed God gave them right to rule, but in reality, relied on their vassals (nobles) to provide knights and soldiers.&nbsp;<br>Lords and ladies lived in manors or castles. Made sure villagers were farming the lord's land and paying rent in the form of crops, meat, and other foods.&nbsp;<br>Knights followed chivalry. Knights were expected to be loyal to the Church and to their lord, to be just and fair, and to protect the helpless.<br>Peasants and serfs are foundation for feudal system because they work the land and they provide the upper parts of the pyramids' needs.</div>]]></description>
