The power loom was invented By Edmund Cartwright and is used to weave thread into cloth and was powered by water. Before the power loom was invented and people made cloth by hand it would take a lot longer to make it than a machine to make it, so the power Loom could make more in a day than even possible before.

Interchangeable parts 1798

The Interchangeable parts were created by Eli Whitney and is used to build or fix things with similar shaped pieces. Interchangeable parts helped factories because If some machines broke down they could use those parts same on the different machines and save time and money.

Mechanical reaper 1847

The Mechanical reaper was invented by Cyrus McCormick And was used to gather wheat and grains faster. Before the Mechanical reaper was invented you would have to harvest grains and wheat by hand but now you can control a machine to do it and it will do the work of five people.

Lowell Girls 1842

The Lowell girls were young women who were hired from nearby farms to work at factories. They would only work for a few years before returning home but helped a great amount in different factories during the Industrial revolution. Since the Lowell girls helped a lot with labor in factories they helped a lot with economic contribution.

Urbanization is when People who lived in rural areas moved to cities. Urbanization helped out with the Industrial revolution by factories gaining more people to work there. Since more people were moving to cities with factories more and more factories would have more people in them so more production of an item would be made to help the U.S. Urbanization was also bad for cities because while it was happening to much people were moving into the cities and they became polluted and dirty throughout.

Life in Towns 1830's

Life in Towns that had factories were very different from living in rural areas.If you were working at a factory wages where determined on marked and you would work 6 days a week 12 hours a day. In Some factories the conditions were dangerous and health could be at risk. Since Sunday was the only day off, on that day you could go shopping with the money that was earned, go to a theater, or go to museums.

Lightweight steel plow 1824

The Lightweight steel Plow was invented by John Deere and was used to dig in to soil to plant crops into. Before it was invented you would have to dig in the dirt by hand and it would take a long and slow process but after it was invented you could use a horse and attach the machine to the hole and quickly dig holes into the ground as the horse would walk.

Spinning Jenny 1764

The Spinning Jenny was invented by James Hargreaves and was used to spin threads very quickly. Before it was invented you would have to manually wrap a thread which would take a while to just finish one but after it was invented it could quickly spin 7 at once which saved a bunch of time.

The idea of powered water came from Samuel Slater and it was a more efficient and easy way of collecting energy. Since water could now be used as a power source many different factories were built alongside rivers or moving water so they could collect some of it and use the energy to power the machines.

During the Industrial Revolution children would also work in factories at young ages that go as low as 7. They would be used in factories because since they were small children they could be able to fit behind and between machines to fix problems with them. Even though this helped it was very risky for children because they could have a chance of getting injured and those injuries could affect them for the rest of their lives.
