The saves were desperate to escape, so many people came together to form the Underground Railroad to help slaves safely escape.

1831 Nat Turner's Rebellion

Nat Turner rebelled because he thought the lord was giving him signs to. He went house to house killing people, and with each house came more followers to help him. After killing 60 white people he went into hiding and was found and hung 6 weeks later.

November 6th, 1860 Election of 1860

It was the election that ended up electing Abraham Lincoln as the 16th president.

March 20th, 1852 Uncle Tom's Cabin

Tom was a slave who was whipped to death due to a slave owner hearing about him trying to end slavery.

1855-1859 Bleeding Kansas

The Bleeding Kansas' cause was to cast false votes for Pro-Slavery. The Legislature later deemed Kansas as a Pro-Slavery state which caused John Brown to rebel when he went to see his sons in Kansas.

October 16th, 1859 John Brown's Raid

Ten of Brown's men were killed in the raid along with six other citizens. John Brown started a slave rebellion in the southern states by taking control of the U.S. arsenal.

10/8-10/1849 Raid on Harpers Fairy

John brown went on a kidnapping spree, so President BUchanan sent Robert E. Lee to capture him. He was captured and hung within the next 24 hours.

April 1846 - February 1848 The Mexican War

Initially it was issues between America and Texas, eventually President K. Polk snapped, and declared this war on may 13th 1846. After the war it eventually led to the Treaty of Guadalupe, Hidalgo agreed to sell California and the rest of its territory north of the Rio Grande for $15 million; the gain in the U.S. territory after the Mexican-American War was roughly 525,000 square miles this growth in the country.
