2) Again, God is what they're raised to believe in and they are beginning to lose hope in him as they are going through their pain, he is not there in their eyes.  

3)  To continue with their loss of faith in god this is another quote where it shows someone wondering where their god was because if he really was there they wouldn't be going through this.

4) With all the terrible things happening to everyone there is a curiousness as to what gods intentions are. Nothing is going their way for them and it is hard to tell if their gods intentions are even good for them. 

5) To finish this off, it is their last chance of hope. All they are looking for is a miracle from the god they once put all of their faith in.
