         <description><![CDATA[<div>Using our 'First Nations' packages (handed out in class on Tuesday, December 12th) we're going to become experts on seven aspects of First Nations' life here in Canada (both back in the past and now)! We're going to use our expert knowledge to create a labeled Lego diorama of our chosen research topic; before we do this, we need to choose our topics and organize our research!<br><br>After reading 'Introduction to the Natives' (Card 1), your chosen card and 'Native American Animal Guides', complete the following on our co-created padlet...<br><br>QUESTIONS<br><br>1. <strong>Who were the first known people in North America?          <title>Transportation of the Natives (Sarah)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. <strong>Who were the first known people in North America? What were they called? Give three facts (using full sentences) about them!</strong> (Information Card #1)<br><br>The first known people of North America were known as the natives. They were called Algonquins. They lived along the eastern coast. This area was covered with forests where the natives hunted. Their land provided the land with trees, games, fish and berries.<br><br>2. <strong>After reading your chosen information card, give us five facts (full sentences) explaining that part of First Nations life! </strong>(Information Cards #2-6 and 10, depending on your topic choice)<br><br>The natives used the simplest methods to travel. The most common way they used to travel was travelling by foot. There were paths that connected to villages. In the winter, they wore snowshoes to prevent them from sinking into the snow. When travelling over water, the natives used canoes. The small, light craft were made of birth bark. It was very simple to swiftly move them through the water. They were very easily carried when necessary.  Travelling was easy and it might not have been very comfortable. However, it was easy to move these travelling tools.<br><br>3. <strong>Lastly, choose an animal guide that represents you. What does it represent, and why does that represent you? Explain in full sentences!</strong> (Final page of information package has this) <br><br>  The animal that represents me is the cougar because I am fast and powerful.          <title>Homes of the first nations (Penny)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1. <strong>Who were the first known people in North America? What were they called? Give three facts (using full sentences) about them!</strong> (Information Card #1)<br>The first nations were the first people to be on earth. There tribe's name was Algonquians. The first nations didn't have very strong houses they had Teepee's.<br><br>2. <strong>After reading your chosen information card, give us five facts (full sentences) explaining that part of First Nations life! </strong>(Information Cards #2-6 and 10, depending on your topic choice)<br>The houses of the first nations are a very important part of the native life. The houses names are: Teepee Wigwam and Log house. In side the houses there are usually fires burning inside the houses for cooking and warmth. They were held up by sticks stood in a circle. The houses are sturdier in winter. The beds were made out of fur.<br><br><br>3. <strong>Lastly, chose an animal guide that represents you. What does it represent, and why does that represent you?          <description><![CDATA[<div>1. <strong>Who were the first known people in North America? What were they called? Give three facts (using full sentences) about them!</strong> (Information Card #1)<br>The first known people of North America are called natives. They are called Algonquians. They lived along the eastern coast of North America. They lived in a area that was once covered with forests where they hunted. The land provided them with food and games. <br><br>2. <strong>After reading your chosen information card, give us five facts (full sentences) explaining that part of First Nations life! </strong>(Information Cards #2-6 and 10, depending on your topic choice)<br><br>The clothing of natives was made from the hide of animals, such as deer, elk or antelope.In the summer, men wore a loincloth and women wore a wrap-around skirt or apron. On their feet, they wore moccasins for warmth and protection. Some natives, such as the Algonquians, were beautifully decorated; they painted their faces and bodies and used beads to add colour to their clothing. Fur robes were worn for extra warmth.<br><br>3. <strong>Lastly, choose an animal guide that represents you. What does it represent, and why does that represent you? Give three facts (using full sentences) about them!</strong> (Information Card #2)<br>The first known people was the North American Natives.<br>They were called the First Nations.<br>There were seven group of the Nations. They were great hunters and they often hunt for deer, moose and buffalo. There was also farm tribes and they often trade with some meat.<br><br>2. <strong>After reading your chosen information card, give us five facts (full sentences) explaining that part of First Nations life! </strong>(Information Cards #2-6 and 10, depending on your topic choice)<br>The nations were great hunters and they often hunt for deer, moose and buffalo. Other times they might hunt for bear, beaver and wild turkey. If there was extra meat, they will share it with the others. Some of the tribes hunted all year, other was farming for the year.  The women often gathered nut and berries. The main group was corn, squash and beans called the three sisters.<br>3. <strong>Lastly, choose an animal guide that represents you. What does it represent, and why does that represent you? These tribes lived all over central north america. They lived in what is now Alberta, Saskatchewan, western Manitoba and down into the united states.<br><br>2. <strong>After reading your chosen information card, give us five facts (full sentences) explaining that part of First Nations life! </strong>(Information Cards #2-6 and 10, depending on your topic choice)<br>Today many natives live on sections of land called <strong>reservations. </strong>These areas of land are set up in Canada and the united states. Today, some natives run museums or conservation areas that teach about the natives' way of life. Deer is alert and a symbol of sensitivity and kindness. Deer represents me because I like my family so much that I made a gift for my mom and gave my dad something he wanted and I also like every one in my family. Give three facts (using full sentences) about them!</strong> (Information Card #1)<br>They are called the native people. there were seven different groups of natives. One of the groups were  named, Algonquians. This group lived along the Eastern coast of North America. This place was once covered with forests where the native with trees, game, fish  and berries.The other group of natives lived in the plains and are named for this place.These groups lived everywhere over central  North America.They lived in what is now Alberta, Saskatchewan, Western Manitoba and down into the United States, most to the Gulf of Mexico. The land is flat, without mountains and lakes.<br><br><br><br>2. <strong>After reading your chosen information card, give us five facts (full sentences) explaining that part of First Nations life! </strong>(Information Cards #2-6 and 10, depending on your topic choice)<br>One fact about when American Natives they used no guns for weapons. Fact number two is that they use tools that were made of stone and wood. Fact number three is when in the winter they fish by cutting a whole in the ice. Fact number four is that when they catch the food they don't throw it out.
