Confederacy Victory

Confederate General E.P. Alexander makes a cocky callout to the Union via message saying “Look out for your left, you are turned.”

The fighting started out on Matthew Hill.

Also, a turning point was that the war wasn't just going to be a 45-day siege and the South was in it for the long term.

It was a Union victory.

The Union won at the courthouse with the surrender of the Confederacy. one impact was that the surrender led to the end of the civil war.

This battle occurred in July of 1861, and was the first major land battle of the Civil War. This happened in the state of Virginia around 25 miles away from the capital, and was a confederate victory. There were leaders from the confederate side that played a major role in the victory, such as Thomas “stonewall” Jackson who was an immense help to the defense of the confederates. This instilled to Lincoln and the North that this is a commited war on both sides and will be costly.

The Union won this battle which had a major impact on the course of the war. Britain and France were preparing to offer support to the Confederacy, but because the confederates lost, any possible recognition and aid from foreign countries was also lost. Another outcome was that the Union had obtained a position that Abraham Lincoln now saw fit to issue the Emancipation of Proclamation.

The Confederates took the victory.

2. The battle marked the beginnings of a Union offensive move towards the Confederate capital, Richmond. Despite taking massive casualties, this battle didn't deter the Union from moving toward the capital.

This battle was planned, and Grant attempted to defeat Lee’s army in a vast and thick forest. Lee had a small army and Grant had a larger one. Grant wanted to stay the night and wait for train supplies before Lee’s army would come through but Lee found them and decided to attack. Lee decided to attack and attempt to stalemate them on the rapland river—one of the most daring and high risk plans of Lee's.

the confederates won this battle but they gained al it more than just that victory. in this battle stone wall Jackson was fatally wounded meaning the union had lost one of their best.
